FO3 totally vanilla for TTW install?

Post by DireWulvyn » Sat Sep 05, 2015 11:24 pm

Arf!

Had another damn comp. malfunction while playing, total crash [as if the power went out, complete shutdown, borked a lot of my stuff]. Game crashes immediately upon attempting to load any save or starting a new game.

I did verify my game cache, which had no effect on my issue. Tried reinstalling TTW, same thing.

I need to re-do my games installs and my question is;

Do I need to remove EVERYTHING from the FO3 directory/folders before running the TTW installer?

By that I mean do I have to remove - FOSE, FOSE plugins, FOMM's mod cache, FO3 Editors, Wrye Bashes, 4GB enablers, etc., etc. and anything else that isn't part of the 'vanilla' download for FO3 that's leftover from the uninstall?

Or will the TTW installer only 'access' the base game vanilla files [if the above files are present] during the conversion?

Not an issue if I have to remove everything, I've screwed my Fallouts so many times in the past that I can almost install the above blindfolded in under 10 minutes. [OK, not blindfolded...]

NOTE-I'll be switching to MO as soon as I learn how to use it correctly [I've just started to try modding my Skyrim game, using the S.T.E.P. wikis', video tutorials, forums, etc.], and will be doing the same for my Fallouts. I'm tired of corrupted files and only my familiarity with FOMM has kept me using it for Fallout games.

So, uninstall everything for a totally fresh vanilla game download to use with TTW installer?

Or can I just uninstall/reinstall the FO3 game into my directory with all that stuff still in it, then run the installer?

Or can I/should I cut/move everything out of the directory, allowing me the option of pasting/drag n' drop the files back into the directory after I've run the TTW installer. [Yes, I know, I'll have to reinitialize things].

I play FO3 so I can check on various FO3 mods that I think might be worth converting to TTW

Advice or other info?

THX

You can probably get away

You can probably get away with leaving your FO3 directory as is, as long as you haven't modified the original bsas, esms, and esps. TTW simply accesses, copies, and modifies those files for use in FNV. FO3 is left alone.

I just left my FO3 folder as is, filled with all of the kind of stuff you described, and installed TTW without any issues (at least without issues which could not be blamed on my crappy old computer).

My computer specs are too embarrassing to reveal, but the game still runs.

Wuff! Awesome news.

I do know the TTW install requires the original FO3 vanilla game/dlc data that is unmodified in any way.

My concern was/is about the utilities/tools/exe's [and their associated subfolders], fose plugins, etc., some in the directory, some in the data folder after uninstalling the FO3 base game/dlc's.
