How do I start the game up?

Post by Theadambomb » Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:25 pm

After 3 long hours of installing, my installer says "Install complete" and I closed it. The only problem is that I only got a folder called "mainfiles" a folder called "optional files" and a file called "TaleOfTwoWastelands_234_main.FOMOD" Is the .fomod file the game? If i click on it it tells me " There is no program specified to open this file type". Can someone please explain this to me. I really want to start playing the mod.

So, a .fomod file is like a zip file.  It contains a lot of smaller files.  It is installed with a mod manager like Fallout Mod Manager, Nexus Mod Manager, or Mod Organizer.

If your modding knowledge is such that you don't know what a .fomod is, installing the Alpha version of TTW is going to be a pretty daunting task. sad

If you are serious about learning how to mod Bethesda games (Fallout, Skyrim, etc.) you probably need to spend some time reading our FAQ - and of course, the instructions on the download page

But FIRST, watch the video tutorials on how to mod Fallout New Vegas.  Seriously.  It will save you a lot of headaches in the future.  wink

I've put the .fomods into the correct folder, but when I open NMM and try installing the mod it always crashes near completion.

OK then you are probably going to have to do a manual installation.  Read the manual install instructions carefully, and do that instead.

I've finally fixed my problem with installing. Now when I start up the game however, there is no start menu. No new game, no continue, load, ect.

A "no menu" problem is caused

Post by thermador » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:04 pm

A "no menu" problem is caused by error's in a mod's .esm or .bsa files, and/or load order errors.  It's not unique to TTW, or even Fallout New Vegas - it plagues Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc.

You can usually figure out which mod is causing it by unchecking each mod in your load order, from the bottom up, and launching the game each time you uncheck a mod to see if the main menu works yet.

Would I have to check with New Vegas and Fallout 3's mods or just New vegas?

Just New Vegas.

Just New Vegas.

Again, that type of question indicates that you really need to read the FAQ, the instructions on the download page, and watch the video tutorials on modding New Vegas.

Seriously.  indecision
