Paladin Gunny and Silver Teleported to me while I was asleep

Post by deadboy » Tue Sep 30, 2014 1:05 am

I did a clean install of FNV when 2.7 came out.  Installed it Friday night, three days ago. I know it's 2.7 but I can't say if it's 2.7 or 2.7.2.

I got a bug where the first night I slept in my Megaton house I was woke up half way through my sleep by Paladin Gunny talking to me as if I'd just walked in to meet him the first time.  I got out of that conversation and set myself to sleep till morning and before that sleep session had stopped Silver, the runaway prostitute living in springvale, woke me up with the speech she gives if you walk in to her house.

Both can be interacted with but neither have much to say.  Neither of them move at all from the spots they spawned on.  It's described rather well by some people in a resolved bug from almost two years ago found here:

https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/npc-teleport-me-during-restsleep.

It's marked resolved from a long time ago.  Not sure if I need to do something or... Anyone know what the resolution was and if I can implement it?

Follow up post.  It doesn't happen only while player is sleeping.

I put silver back in her home with moveto player at her house.  I don't have citadel access in the game this happened in so Gunny had been standing around my megaton house.  I was just about to start a chat with Casdin of the outcasts and pop, there's paladin Gunny asking me what I'm doing or whatever his intro dialog is.  I get out of that and he immediately attacks the outcasts.

Definitely running 2.7.2 with the mods listed above

Sounds possibly like symptoms of a poorly converted or unconverted mod. If a plugin references a form that in TTW/FNV is a different form that in F3, weird shit can happen.

We write install instructions so that this stuff DOESN'T happen.

I mean this in the least

Post by deadboy » Sun Oct 05, 2014 3:57 pm

I mean this in the least internet-y way possible!  Pointing me to the instructions is unhelpful. I read all the instructions and have been trying to learn as much as possible from the fine folks in the chat room.  I've read the instructions backwards after forwards and have asked for clarification numerous times where I felt there was possible ambiguity.

I posted this less as a bug report than a request for information on the "fix" that was mentioned in the very old post that seemed to mirror what I'm seeing.  All the initial bug report said was "fixed/closed".  I was hoping for info on that fix so in my current install I have gone away from NVEC, implementing various bits that I want, I don't inadvertently add one that chokes it or something similar.

My primary goal was to inquire about this and find out if the problem was due to my error, which is likely, or see if something I have loaded is causing an old bug to pop up again thereby negating the fix which solved this so long ago.  The fact that the bug is not easily replicated short of just standing/sleeping for days or months in the Megaton home and wondering if you've slept long enough to either have it happen or wonder if the load out you are testing it with is OK.

Again, I want to stress that my post was not and is not intended as a troll like, "Your thing is crap, fix it." I dug deep, found an old bug report that was closed, asked in the chat and was told, I believe by TJ but if that's wrong I apologize, to just post it and see if anyone knew what the fix was to get a better idea of what might be causing it for me.

I've done my bi-weekly clean install and hopefully it won't pop up again.  But I am still curious what might have caused it so I don't see it again.  Or so that if I do see it again that I can say, "Hey, it was mod X combined with wonky load order Y."

Thank you all for your input. If you have any ideas or thoughts on what the original fix was I'd still love to hear them.

Basically NVEC kills TTW in a variety of ways. It's bad. It sounds as though you have been gutting it for bits and pieces, so long as you are fairly sure of what you are doing it's probably not NVEC related anymore, but I would bet that it was to begin with.

We can't really say specifically any plugin included in NVEC is the problem, because the problem might not be any of the mods included in the NVEC compilation. NVEC itself (and similar "bug fix" mods) also includes things from the compilation author in addition to the mods it compiles. And the bug report section might mark an issue as closed because it was not actually a problem with vanilla TTW (FNV+FO3+TTW with no mods)... if it's an issue introduced by a mod, it's not a bug in TTW. The bug tracker is for TTW bugs.

Post by deadboy » Sun Oct 05, 2014 6:46 pm

Today will actually be the first day of mini NVEC.  Keeping about 10 of the 100 or so things it adds.  I'll probably play with them separated for a while and see if anything freaks out.  If not I'll merge them and go from there.  When I started with TTW back a while there were still attempts to patch to work with NVEC.  Looks like that was abandoned.

NVEC definitely looks to be the likely candidate. Still, I like to know.  If it rears it's head in this clean install I will post again and have an easier time hopefully narrowing down a culprit.
