sorry for the off topic, stupid question. but what's the biggest issue with NMM vs FOMM i was under the impression the base code for both was written by the same person.

@freakydoo What I've been

Post by morlund69 » Sat Dec 28, 2013 10:13 pm

@freakydoo What I've been able to tell from my experiments is that NMM is more convenient for downloads than FOMM, but NMM can't handle really big packages like the TTW - Main fomod (at least on lower end machines like mine) and may even corrupt the packages if and when it fails. FOMM works fine, however; its just a little bit dated and unstable (for me).

i like NMM, but i hear over

Post by freakydoo » Sat Dec 28, 2013 10:24 pm

i like NMM, but i hear over and over again how much better FOMM is. i ran into the same issue while installing TTW with NMM as many others but i wouldn't have considered my system "low-end". although there might be a bottleneck with the HDD. i need to look into a solid state drive.

All I know for sure is that, here on my end, NMM suits most of my needs, and FOMM works for those few other instances like installing TTW. I just use both.

i had read somewhere that NMM

Post by freakydoo » Sat Dec 28, 2013 11:06 pm

i had read somewhere that NMM can corrupt the TTW FOMOD files so i may re-install TTW using fomm cause i'm getting some random issues that i didn't have before (the mister handy follower general what's his face showing up from thin air after a transition to a different area, christie young @ RC not having dialog, etc...) these things may have nothing to do with TTW but i wanna make sure that when i did a manual install after trying NMM that NMM didn't mess something up

@thatchor: i like wrye a lot. been using it since oblivion, never used the BAIN option for installing though

I don't think they were

Post by Thatchor » Sat Dec 28, 2013 11:06 pm

I don't think they were written by the same person. I could be wrong though. I prefer FOMM because it's generally more powerful and has some nice built in tools. To be completely honest, I actually prefer Wrye Bash the most, but I tend to use FOMM on a regular basis. In my opinion, and there's a strong possibility that it is wrong, NMM was created to have an idiot proof way to download and install simple mods when Skyrim came out since it was so popular. It was adapted to other games because it does work nicely for most mods. This analysis isn't based off of anything; just a personal observation that I tell myself.

Kaburke, the guy that was developing FOMM after Timeslip (starting with the new vegas version?), was hired by DarkOne to launch the NMM project. I'm not sure if he is still active on it, but NMM is based on FOMM for sure.

I'm Having this issue as well.  Its annoying to finally get it installed, then have it fail to load correctly and end up with a big picture and music and no menu.

Phenom2 x4 965, 32GB RAM, ATI 6950 1GB vid card.  onboard sound.   running win7 x64.

Clean folder install of both FO3 GOTY and FONV from steam. (second try, the first download apperantly was corrupt)

Deleted the Ini files, opened the loader to recreate and used the manual install instructions to make sure the changes required by TTW were in all 3 ini files.

used FOMM and toggled archiveinvalidation multiple times, then verified the .bsa shows in the ini and in the data folder.

I also cleared the %appdata% folders, and recreated the load order.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Edit: further Tshooting done: used FOMM, dumped the FO3 and TTW esm,  loaded normal. added back in pairs until it gave me the menu issue again.   then reading the master lists I put the other ESMs back, it seems the Broken Steel DLC is where my problem is at.    Could somone else having the issue do the same test to see if the issue is consistant to a particular DLC?
