FO3 GoTY disc version to 1.7 for ToTW.

Post by Fatalmasterpiece » Fri Sep 13, 2013 2:55 am

I have the GoTY edition of Fallout 3. I installed it and tried to install ToTW (I have the Steam Ultimate edition of NV). ToTW gave an error for version, and I realized I had not updated FO3 to 1.7. So I downloaded the patch but it breaks my FO3 every... single... time. This is an unmoddified, unedited GoTY disc FO3 install crashing on startup after installing 1.7...

What can I do if I need 1.7 to play ToTW?

a real FO3 GOTY from both

a real FO3 GOTY from both steam and from GFWL should already come patched to 1.7

Edit: I think I have gotten this one worked out in private chats with Fatalmasterpiece, there was an issue with disk 2 not installing. Once he got it to install the TTW Installer finished and I got him running with an FO3 start.

with luck all is good but, I await further reports.

I have GFWL Fallout 3 game of the year disk version and it does indeed already come patched to 1.7.

What other info can you give? OS, your FO games language/region, any nocd exe?

If anyone stumbles upon this

If anyone stumbles upon this with a similar problem....

My particular GOTY edition on disc would crash, every time after installing the DLCs and patch(?) on disc 2. However, as Chuck helped my figure out, the TTW installer only needed the files in place, regardless of if FO3 was functioning properly or not. Despite FO3 not working, FNV was functioning fine and I was able to install TTW using the installer and play the Capital Wasteland of DC in FONV.

Ironically, without TTW I probably wouldn't be able to play FO3 at all without further figuring out what was wrong with my disc/install.

He is not a pirate Rise just for some odd reason his disk 2 didn't want to install. once we had that in place all worked as expected.

I was going to ask if it had

I was going to ask if it had any problem installing the second disk, since it is that one that patches the FO3 while installing the DLCs, because today while I was out I remembered reading quite a while ago somewhere, that someone didn't have their FO3 patched because somehow they didn't install the second disk cheeky.

If only I wasn't so zombie in the mornings I would have probably think about it when I posted the first post sad.

Glad you got it working now, three cheers for Chuck yes.

It's probably that the disc

It's probable that the disc version was indeed patched to 1.7, so my original statement wasn't accurate. TTW installer still gave me the version error though due to missing content which was needed from the second disc.

As memory serves, I had the same problem installing the second disc several years ago, as well as many others who also purchased physical copies. I bought mine at Target, if that makes any difference, though now I wish I had bought it on Steam.

Thanks again, seems to be working great.

i read about this problem in

Post by dawe1313 » Sun Sep 15, 2013 2:00 pm

i read about this problem in several  different places. the GFWL 2 disc GOTY version does have issues with the 2nd (DLC's) disc. it has something to do with the DRM security. it apparently depends on the individual computer as to how severe the issue is. taking a really, really long time to read/install the disc, failure to install, partial installs, failure to apply the 1.7 patch, can all be symptoms of this issue.

the fix that most people have had success with is:

 • start Windows in Safe Mode, and then install the 2nd disc.

 • after installing the 2nd disc, restart Window normally

 • then run the Official Fallout 3 Patch v1.7

this is what i had to do the last time i did a clean FO3 install, which was for TTW 2.2a
