Disc version of Fallout 3 not supported?

Post by Chatter14 » Wed May 29, 2013 1:59 am

I bought the GotY version from Wal-Mart a few years back, when I first started getting into PC gaming. Popped it in, discovered my Windows wasn't compatible and haven't touched PC gaming since. Then I got Fallout: NV later last year, and was complaining about how F3 was apparently a waste of money when I was recommended here.

I re-installed the disc-version of Fallout 3: GotY, updated it, and went to install TTW. It's telling me my .esm and .bsa files of Fallout 3 and all of it's DLCs aren't supported. So, is that it? Am I outta luck again?

Yep. I tried that after it didn't work the first time, and that's as far as I got before coming here.

Ok, I just checked, and I got

Ok, I just checked, and I got Fallout3.esm in the FOMM, along with the TTW.esm and the optional TTW changes.

I updated Fallout 3 by going to Bethesda's website and downloading the patch update there.

I can't run Fallout 3, since I'm on Windows 7, but I've been running Fallout: New Vegas without a problem. My problem is that the TTW installer keeps saying that my Fallout3.bsa and the .bsa/.esp files of all of the expansions aren't compatible.

Any help troubleshooting would be much appreciated.

Edit: Oh, sorry I forgot to refresh, so I didn't see your post. Thanks! I'll get to it right away!

"Yes, Virginia, there ARE two

"Yes, Virginia, there IS a Second Disc". (the 2nd disc has all the DLC's)

as far as running FO3 on Win 7, i've never had any problems. and since you have to launch FO3 at least once, here are some things you can try:

install outside of Program Files (x86), i.e. "C:\Games\Fallout 3"

run in XP SP3 compatibility mode and as admin (rt-click shortcut, Properties. Compatibility Tab)
hope you get it working. also, don't forget, you can always ask questions in the Public Chatroom. there's usually some one there that can help you out with some real-time tech support

I picked up mine FO3 goty at Commisary when I was in USA last year, got NV as well, and they both work perfectly. I didn't patch 'em, and I'm having next to none issues.
