TTW Installer Issues

Post by SomeoneStrange » Sun Mar 03, 2013 12:38 am

Hey all, I've been absolutely dying to try this mod, but the patcher seems to have a hard time actually opening a cmd window and doing its work.

When I first launch the installer, I got the error mentioned in the FAQ about "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'TTWInstaller\TempInstall\lsdata\dtc6dal.dat'" missing. Followed directions, and managed to get past that to the next error

[collapsed title=Error 2] See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I had Chucksteel take a look through teamviewer, and we determined that it shouldn't stop the installation process from completing, however upon clicking continue, the patcher gets stuck like this:

[collapsed title=Error 3] Determining system architecture...

64-bit Architecture found!

Could Not Automatically Determine Fallout 3 Location

Could Not Automatically Determine Fallout New Vegas Location

Tale of Two Wastelands was found at C:\Users\Mitch\Desktop\TTW_Temp\

TaleOfTwoWastelands - Misc.bsa could not be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\

Extracting Fallout - Misc.bsa... [/collapsed]

I've been told it can take some time at that stage, but it doesn't open up the cmd prompt like I've seen in the guides, and waiting for about 3 hours left me with no dice (I promise, my computer is far from slow)

Things I've tried so far:

  • Compatibility mode for XP and Vista

  • Fresh installs of FO3 and FONV

  • Running everything as admin, with UAC disabled

  • Deleting and redownloading the installer, and all the temp files I could find from it

  • Repairing installations of both the C++ redistributable, and .NET framework

Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this, and hopefully get me up and running!

That's definitely on your end

That's definitely on your end. I would actually assume it has something to do with the redistributable or .net.

Try uninstalling them both, shutting down your computer, and then reinstalling them. That's my only guess though...

I'll be damned. Looks like I

I'll be damned. Looks like I had a few versions of the C++ redistributable installed. Apparently the older ones caused whatever conflict occurred - yanked em out and it worked like a charm!

Thanks very much for the tip - it sent me in the right direction!

Since new people will visit

Since new people will visit this post for Tech Support, I think it prudent to post a thought on how I got TTW working on my system, simi related.

Rather than installing TTW over Fallout New Vegas folder,

1st Install it to a temporary folder.  This places all the asset changes into a temp folder cleanly.

2nd Copy and Paste the assets over your FNV folder (clean install of FNV is Best)

3rd either store your Temp TTW folder somewhere safe or recycle it for drive space.

Notes: It takes hours for a new install of TTW so installing over FNV folder can result in unforseen issues  most likely to happen if you have mods already installed in your FNV folder.

For Detailed instructions on this method download the "A Tale of Two Wastelands Installation Guide with pictures", which can be found on the Alpha Download Page.

gamefever, Good call on pointing this method out, I did cover it in the install guide but, assumed most would go for easy install. wink
