Super Mutant Party appears from thin air

Post by silentassassin » Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:51 pm

I am Editing this post because it seems like Silentassassin was editing his post to talk about a problem he chatted with me yesterday, but for some reason he didn't change the text of the post, only put the screenshot about the problem cheeky.

Ok the problem Silentassassin (and I can confirm this with a new game and no mods) has is that after he crosses the river to reach the metro station to go to GNR for the first time, a party of super mutants appear on the other side of the river out of thin air, if we walk there before crossing the river they are not there. Since it is such a sneak attack and from super mutants it makes it impossible for lower level players to survive if they go close even on the opposite side of the river.

I am not sure sure if it's a bug or if the mutants against raiders is a scripted event, but it does make it hard to loot the raiders or even walk near their bodies without becoming a swiss cheese cheeky.

Hope Jax doesn't get angry at me for opening this after he closed it, but since it already has the screenshot attached to it and since I edited it to be a complete new post I believe it's ok.

Risewild out angel.

I know it is a scripted event, I've seen this happen many times myself. It's meant to introduce you to super mutants at the beginning of FO3, I'm NOT sure, however, if this happens in FO3 as well. Would someone be willing to check?

I'm pretty sure that they are there in FO3.  Actually, come to think of it, I think I just bolted back to their side of the river once they showed up.  They definitely show up when you get across the river, so that part seems to be scripted. For a low level character, it is indeed a nasty fight, but I think it is supposed to be that way. (The wasteland is a harsh place after all.)

It is a scripted event, is absolute normal FO3 behavior (TTW works completely as it should be here) and they are pretty easy to avoid. They are busy with the raiders on the other side so the player has plenty opportunities to get past this scene. (No! Little low leveled player not every loot is easy to get ;) )

The (also completely normal) random encounter on the bridge is trickier to survive if you get the wounded Deathclaw. :)

Yeah, this is supposed to happen. I remember having this happen when I first played FO3, and every other time I did a new game. Also with TTW. But they always shoot at raiders across the river.

There is a similar event when the player is looking for GNR studios. You exit the metro, and walk toward one of the Pulowski(is that it) Shelters and two mutants just appear and the Lyons Pride saves you.

Definitely scripted, they also reappear after a time. I was showing my sister the game with a high level character and fast traveled to the metro station. The raiders were there, then super mutants and a random Talon squad walked down the ramp. I started blazing away in real time and invariably ended up shooting some of the weapons from their hands. One of the Talons swam across the river to get a gatling lazer. Is was pretty cool.
