Fallout3.esm CTD Before Main Menu Possible Fix

Post by bigbobblehead » Tue Apr 09, 2013 6:30 am

Hey Everyone, I am relatively new to the forum, and just got "involved" with a modding community for the first time and I am glad it was TTW =D

Now JaxFirehart and I had a long discussion about my seemingly perfect install when 2.12 came out. Here is what I found that helped me and all of the information you may need.

And I will leave links directly to these files for everyone at the very bottom as well

First me specs

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64

There are 4 CPUS inside this beach

My graphics card is Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000

I bought Fallout New Vegas on Steam and I bought Fallout 3 from Walmart. I threw out the receipt like most people with enough paper laying around in their house do...

I followed the installation directions exactly as they were. This includes the pre-requirements, C++ Visual Studios Redist. 2012 x86, C++ Visual Studios Redist. 2012 x64, and the Windows .NET Framework 4.5 from www.Microsoft.com.

Now on with what you really want to be reading. My first run with the TTW 2.12 patcher/installer, everything appeared to have worked the way it was supposed to - An unresponsive ttw installer, yes this is normal for most of us, and a 20 - 45 minute wait before the ttw installer poped up and said it was finished installing ttw. Again, everything appeared to have installer right. This is not a fix for those who had one of those unsuccessful installations where u get a pop up saying files could not be found... continue anyhoo? blah blah blah

Now somebody mentioned something in the public chat about being able to tell whether or not a CTD, or crash to desktop, had to do with ur LOAD ORDER. He said ur pointer won't show up on the screen and then crash before you get to the point where it loads everything, i.e "Loading Downloadable Content" . Basically what that means is that is is checking for .ESM files.

My issue was not installing the second disc ,which includes the dlc since I already installed it  and when u reinstall fo3 it won't delete the dlc from the data folder. The best way I can describe this is like this

Fallout 3 GOTY disk 1 installs the following .esm and .bsa's files:

Fallout3.esm, fallout - main.bsa, fallout - meshes.bsa, fallout - textures.bsa, etc.

Fallout 3 GOTY disk 2 installs the following .esm and .bsa files:

Fallout3.esm, fallout - main.bsa, fallout - meshes.bsa, fallout - textures.bsa, etc.

Anchorage.esm, Anchorage - main.bsa, Anchorage - sounds.bsa

Broken Steel.esm, I think the rest is pretty much self explanatory

The Fallout3.esm's on each disk are not the same and without the one from disk two shite will go to shite and if u don't reinstall the dlc it will cause u to ctd before main menu

Hope that helped. I am tired as shiiit. one more tip make sure u install ur windows updates ppl please if u haven't already
