Strange problem when trying to start a new game

Post by Wolvorine » Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:04 am

Okay, I just installed TTW.  I made sure I have all the required DLCs, made sure the load orders were correct, and I disabled all of my other mods (except CASM and DarnUI).  After the opening cinematic it gives me the typical popup notifications for the FONV DLCs (I have the DLCMessageSuppression.esp checked in FOMM, but I'm getting them anyway).  After those popup notices, the game immediately shows me this:

There's no animation to lead up to that, and it doesn't eventually move on to anything.  Just that.  The two human figures don't move at all, but the lights on the machinery behind them do flash like they're supposed to, so I know it's not a total lockup of the engine.  I'm kinda stumped.  Any clues?

Run the installer again and get me its output, I need to confirm it installed properly, also a load order is always helpful, once again, to confirm that everything is set up correctly.

Hmm, okay.  How do I get its output?  I didn't see anything like that the first time I ran it, then again I wasn't looking for anything the first time I ran it.

Additionally, I ran the installer again, and after it had finished with all of the DOS windows it came up with this popup

I think it may have done this the first time around too, but I can't recall.  The curious thing is I had just rebooted, and the only other program I had running was skype, so nothing could have been using Fallout_default.ini.  For redundancy's sake I DLed and installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable SP1 and .NET framework 4.5 the Alpha DL page indicate, even though I think I already had them.  I have no idea whatsoever why it might think the ini is in use by anything.  I also don't know what it was going to attempt to do to the ini, so that may well be the cause of the problem from my original post.  :/

Was this on a fresh install

Post by thermador » Tue Jan 22, 2013 5:56 pm

Was this on a fresh install of New Vegas, or did you have a bunch of mod installed before and then uninstalled the mods?

The reason I ask is: there may be some leftover mod bits and pieces, or changes to INI files, that are causing this.

The output is the text box

Post by JaxFirehart » Tue Jan 22, 2013 6:31 pm

The output is the text box below options and above install. That bug is inconsequential, so don't worry about it, just poor coding in the installer that will be fixed for the next release.

Get me that output text so I can verify that the installer isn't encountering errors, also, ditto to thermador's question.

I also need a load order still.

Thermador - It's not a fresh

Post by Wolvorine » Tue Jan 22, 2013 8:58 pm

Thermador - It's not a fresh install of New Vegas, no.  I did do a fresh re-install not long ago, but I put the mods I usually use back in afterward.  Didn't think I might have to use a fresh, clean install for TTW.

Jax - This is the output I got from the TTW installer after running it just now:

Everything looks perfect... It's almost certainly a scripting or package error, except that I KNOW that load order is perfect and has no conflicts. Do you know how to work FNVEdit at all?

Is your copy of FNV American and English?

FONV is American & English, yep.  As to FNVEdit, not...  really.  I have it, but I don't really know how to use it.

[Edit: Is it telling at all that I have the TTW_DLCMessageSuppression.esp checked, but the DLC notifications are still coming up as dialog boxes in the middle of the screen?  Don't know if that provides any additional info or not.]

It tells me that you have a mod conflict, except that nothing there could cause a conflict. In the TTW core file I already changed it so that the DLC doesnt show up until you exit the vault or Docs house. So SOME mod is changing those scripts.

Open your load order in FNVEdit, as in when you open FNVEdit and it asks which plugins to load don't change anything! Just click OK. It takes A WHILE to load, about 10 minutes usually.

I will need a screenshot of a few different records:

TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm \ Quest \ 00102037 <VCG00>

I guess that's it to start with, but keep FNVEdit open for a bit so you don't have to wait for it to load again.
