Tranquility Lane and Inventory Sorters are Incompatible

Post by frenzyslave » Sat May 25, 2013 7:16 am

Jumped in the simulator by playing through the main quest, and the game freezes on loading Tranquility Lane.

I searched the forum but couldn't find a definite answer to my problems. Through trial and error, I eventually track down the issue of my problem of the game freezing on the load up screen to Tranquility Lane.

The issue was Project Nevada's item sorting function and Tranquility Lane were incompatible. :(

Simply untick the item sorting function using MCM (Mod Configuration Manager) of PN Core, exit MCM, and a popup will appear saying on the next game load the items will be renamed. Save the game and exit the game. Reload the new game save, and then jump into the simulator. Fixed.

I assume after completing Tranquility Lane you can then reedit PN to turn the item sorting function back on :D

I assume this is a fix workaround for Anchorage as well, since they use a simulator too and PN item sorter might clash with that too. ;)

If you don't know what MCM is, get your head out of the sand and get it especially for Project Nevada. With MCM and PN you can edit alot of the game internals - your xp rate (mine is at 33%), perk rate, max level, carry weight, hit points, loot discovered, etc.

that's not really an "in-game" fix. he's talking about actually modifying the scripts, which would have to be done in the GECK

Sure. Haven't tested it out on any DLCs yet when they strip your gear, but I assume it will work for that too if you are experiencing game freeze on loading the new area.

Took me about 3 minutes to do Tranquility Lane quest (in and out asap, lol). After exiting Tranquility Lane, I turned the inventory sorter back on with no problems :D Weeeeeeeeeeee!

That's really weird, but if that fixes it, hmm.... Nothing to my knowledge uses the actual name filed of the items, aside from the UI and the player, so that can't be it. The crash occurs when entering the simulator pods, correct? I'll take a look at those scripts and see what's up in them that might cause an issue.

I haven't looked at it in a while, and I'm kinda tired right now, but iirc, the sorter system does several things. The first thing it does is on a game restart. It processes the special cell for all containers and renames the items in them accordingly, it processes the vendor cell for FNV and I think FO3, and with EO I added in processing of the GRA cell as well. It then runs through the player's inventory and changes all unchanged items there as well. It then stops all processing until 1 of two conditions is met. The first is if the player looks at, within activation distance of, a container, it will grab that container and look through its items to see if any need renaming. The second one is if the player's weight changes (encumbrance vs carry weight stat) it will trigger a reprocess.

What I think might be happening is that it's detecting a weight change when the player has all their items stripped, and then has the TL items added. That's triggering the script to start a reprocess of items, which first gets a count of all items in the player's inventory, then scans them. At the same time, the TL script is still removing items and adding new ones, which throws off the item count

Ignore all of that, it's not the issue. This will need testing if you'd be willing to help me test it out. I'm curious to figure out what might be the problem there.

There is no CTD, just the game freezes on the loading screen to the new area (the spinning compass) - ONLY if the PN Core item sorting is ticked in MCM (Mod Configuration Menu).

I run with 72 mods, and through a process of elimination the item sorter checkbox was the culprit.

I think by default Project Nevada runs with no sorted inventory, but if you also run MCM it can do that for you only if you check it. Ticked, game freezes. Unticked, continue into Tranquility Lane with no problems.

Does it freeze if you turn it

Does it freeze if you turn it back on while in TL, and then exit with it on?

Dunno, never checked.

Dunno, never checked. Basically I did Tranquility Lane in 3 minutes, and when exiting TL I turned the inventory sorter back on in the capital wasteland, lol.

I have a save in tranquility lane, so will check...

Activated the inventory sorter again while in TL, then exited the door with no problems.

So its only the initial loading of Tranquility Lane which it doesn't like...
