Sheson Memory Patch

Post by manos » Wed May 14, 2014 3:28 pm

Hi guys and girls!

Since i didn't saw any thread on it, i'm coming here to say that the Skyrim Memory patch from Sheson was ported to "NVSE 4.2b4". It didn't work exactly in the same way but it's very simple to activate.

All you have to do it's this:

Open the "Data" folder of FNV, then go to the "NVSE" folder and if it doesn't exist, create a new text file and name it:  "nvse_config.ini" (Not in the "plugins" folder but in the "NVSE" folder!)

Open "nvse_config.ini" and add those lines:

[Memory]

DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=400

There is not many feedback for it but it seems to work, since i activated it, i had less crash. In conjuction, you can use this mod:

"Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector - New Vegas Edition"    http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49319/

It's useful if your FNV get slow after playing 1 hour or more. I had this problem like many others and this mod help me a LOT with that. It has an MCM menu and it's fully configurable. Don't set the purge time too tight because it could break some active scripts (Nevada Skies is an example). The default settings works good for me.

And, that's it! Tchuss!

Cool! I'm also using NVAC and NVSR without any problem.

Like Sheson said himself: "Holy Cow, i fixed Skyrim" (and he should add: FNV too!)

Like you said, it won't gives you more FPS but a much more stable game!

On the Skyrim Nexus, he posted a screenshot with like "300 or 500 guards", yes you've read well, without crashing! Gopher made a video about this in his "Skyrim Mod Sanctuary 84", if you want to see the real effect:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37xAMUQc1oY

You can test how good it works out for you, just like in the video with the same "console command". If it works, you should see your FPS falling on the ground but no crash!

There is no tool to read the memory allocation for FNV yet but if you really want to know if it's good for you, try this:

First, try the memory patch on a Vanilla game, to me it crashes around 25/30 guards. Then add the "Zan AutoPurge" and test it again to see if there is an improvement. Normally you shouldn't see any improvement if you test it for a few minutes. "Zan AutoPurge" will help you in a different way, but it definitely working. You can see how it help after 30/60 minutes of gameplay, when the game usually becomes unstable.

After that, do the same on your mod setting and try to see if it change something. Honestly, since i used the memory patch (FNV or Skyrim), i won't play without anymore!

I feel a like the first time i tried NVSR: truly amazed ;)

My game doesn't become unstable after 30/60 minutes of gameplay, or even after a couple of hours. Honestly I can't see any improvement at all. After adding the ini tweak I know it's working, because I know what it does. I just can't tell the difference.

Maybe because of our respective hardware? Windows tweak or software environment?

My Pc is pretty new and the last time i've played FNV, i had an ATI 7870. Now i have a GTX780 EVGA Superclocked.

When i said "unstable", i mean there is some slow down especially when i open the pipboy or when i hit "esc". When i used the memory patch, it's all gone! Yeah really!

But you said to me once that you're not playing with a ton of mod, this and your knowledge  makes your personal FNV/TTW experience better then mine, i guess ;)    ( Edit: actually, i'm pretty sure about this ;) )

I always have to limit myself on the mods i want to use and for me this patch and "Zan AutoPurge" really pushed the limits. I also really, really love playing with an ENB and this could be/is performance killer but so beautiful.

There is not much feedback with this patch and some feedback from TTW users could be useful to the NVSE team since it's an "heavy mod". I believe some you guys know them, don't you?  Anyway if it could help people, even just a bit, it worth trying! Thank you for sharing ;)

Edit2: Can you point me what i've misspelled, please?

Please excuse my enormous noobishness, oh great and mighty gods of TTW!

But could someone please explain to me what this is all about? I'll grab all the stability I can get, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking at with this. Is it some sort of extra .dll, or a copy-paste chunk of code for a .ini file, or what?

You have to have the very newest version of NVSE. That's the chunk of code. Then you have to make the ini file to enable the chunk of code.

You can find some

You can find some informations in the guide from the first link: "Fear and Loathing in New Vegas" by EssArrBee.      "NVSE 4.2b4" is the very first mod under the "Extenders" section.

The guide only cover FNV but you will find pretty much anything you need here for the FO3 part. Almost all if not all of the popular mods for FO3 has a topic in the TTW forum. Sometimes it required more or less "extra work" but if you're ready to spend some times in it, the end worth it.

Post by manos » Sun May 18, 2014 2:28 pm

For The Memory Patch, I believe only Skyrim can handle more than 768MB.

I've read somewhere that FNV apparently has a limit around 512MB but I won't say more on this since I don't really know what I'm talking about here.

Anyway, I'm glad if you found anything helpful.

@Manos

I think Gopher touches on that in one of his how to vids.

If life is but a test, where's the damn answer key?!?!?
