and now... FNV is dead...

Post by alanbard » Sat Feb 22, 2014 2:59 am

and now... FNV is dead... doesn't get to any screen -- ctd in about 3 secs never leaves the black... whether started from NMM or started from Steam.

Restarted computer... restarted NMM restarted Steam and we now die before any screens appear in NV.

This last restart of game was with nothing other than basic mods.

then with no mods...

reinstalling NV

Have you tried searching the TTW forums and seeing if anyone else is having the problem?

like maybe try searching "does not exist on this server" and see what comes up.

okay, skyrim and FO3 both

Post by alanbard » Sat Feb 22, 2014 3:06 am

okay, skyrim and FO3 both still working through the manager.

I did not try to restart NV inbetween uninstalling ttw14 and installing ttw24. The 14 did not want to deactivate and had to be deleted to make it go away.

Okay  --- there's somewhere in the install info that says if you have problems search for the site, and I did for "error codes" ....

----

has anyone contacted Nexus and suggested they ship NMM already large memory aware?

thanks for all help...

I did up the mem on NMM etc ---

but the base game ate it's own tale --- will not even load with just NV nothing else -- dies within about 5 secs never leaving black.

However, I am now dealing with steam not acknowledging the DVD to do a reinstall.. took an hour to read in the dvd (ultimate) and now wants to download 7.7 gigs of update.

As I recall it tried the same thing when I was installing the Oblivion from the anthology, but I mangaged to force it to ask for a serial number...

---

but so far all steam says is: well, some companies don't have the most uptodate version on the dvd.

So since my connection take over 24 hours to download that amount of data, plus the odds of it completing it are nil, and since like most bband connections there is a 5 gigabyte limit than you start paying penalties...

I don't know when I'll have NV back up.

---

I should have a total save ... but so far I've found one where I saved everything in the data folder but not the program stuff...

May try a fresh install on another computer and see if steam will let it install, if it does just transfer to the other steam folder...

okay just found a complete

okay just found a complete backup from 04-2012 that has all the dlc so must be the ultimate edition... of course it does have something called Requiem that I'll have to remove... but I will try shoving the program into the steam folder and see what happens --- hopefully if it's all there it will stop trying to install more.

------

I appreciate all you folks have done over the years on this... and will try to hit the donate button at the beginning of the month. I usually send some money to Nexus (despite the fact my downloads never run close to the capped speeds) but since I'm not certain the problems NMM had taking out the old TTW wasn't what killed the game... I'll skip them for a month. The installed fomod for tww14 would not deactivate and I had to use the delete option to remove it in order to try installing the tww24 fomod. Did that screw up NV don't know, I didn't try to start the game inbetween taking out 14 and trying to install 24...

after four days of much help

Post by alanbard » Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:39 am

after four days of much help from Bethesda and none from steam...

Still unable to complete a reinstall of FNV ultimate.

But the old complete backup runs quite happily.

But still get the object blah blah message after NMM unpacks and installs the new 2.4 fomod...

Will try using FOMM see if there are differences.

I did make NMM large memory aware.

---

am going to try the old 1.4 fomod just to check.

-----

thanks to all who replied.

----

by the way, if you search steam for steam won't read FNV DVD you get a mere 41,000 search listings.. in an really expanded range of languages...

don't have a clue about the install problem

okay I do steam is not processing the files loaded from the dvd but choosing to attempt to download 7.7 gigs ie... the whole program.

When I installed the skyrim from the anthology it did the same thing, tried to start downloading from steam. But I had a new serial number as opposed to the one with basic skyrim installed back on 11/11/11. Once I forced it to see the new serial number -- the steam installer said okay and processed the data from the dvd.

But with FNV, the serial number matches what it already has -- so that work around doesn't work.

-----

If I had not copied the entire FNV folder to another drive, I would not be able to use the game... as steam keeps saying things like due to updates and changes the old game won't work...

----

As bethesda has verified... the version on the ultimate disk is the ultimate.

---

so copy those folders

it looks like success, using a work around...

I created a 7z file of just the loose folders.

tried to active it but got an object not found.

so I copied all the bsa etc into the fallout NV data file

then I actived the 7z file of the folders...

no error message and we are up and running.
