Interesting.

Come to think of it, the NCRs quest for preventing the Legion from assassinating the visiting president Kimball can actually fail due to running out of time. So if you get handed this mission by Colonel Moore and get approached by Ranger Grant, it is best to do it right away then and there before leaving the Hoover Dam area.

There's also the mission to stop the bomb on the monorail - that's has a VERY short timeout. You have to run (sprinting helps, if you have the sprint mod), and KNOW where the bomb is ahead of time.

I used to just go up and gank that guy without listening to him- I later found, I needed to wait and listen before gankage which would then fire off the quest to save the monorail. Otherwise, I couldn't get in it at all.

I did that the first time, too. The "quest" doesn't start until he radios in, so I wait for the quest message before shooting him now. I've never bothered to let him go... I ought to try that sometime.

I think the optional part is to 'turn him in'- I've never done that either. I bet if you do, he'll be in the jail cell along with that guy that who sells black market goods there in Camp McCarren (if you turn him in also). My first play through I ratted him out; other times I just let him be, then buy tons of ammo he sells like the armor piercing stuff.

Indeed, Contreras at McCarran is arguably the best surplus ammo merchant in the game - Often has massive quantities of 5mm Surplus, I recall stocking up on about 10000 surplus rounds for fully upgraded GRA Assault Carbine and having to get additional weapon repair kits from the Sierra Madre Vending machine to keep the weapon together.

Also makes sense lore-wise, because Contreras clearly has by far the best connections (and least moral restrictions) for selling the ammo from the NCR logistics. While getting this guy arrested is by the book default NCR serving goody two shoes approach, this is propably not the optimal choice for those who can appreciate all that ammo for sale.
