So, is there a point going to New Vegas before finishing Fallout 3?

Post by Xariez » Mon Aug 31, 2015 2:49 pm

Hello everyone,

I have recently started playing Fallout 3, however also along with New Vegas due to TTW. I've sat here enjoying the game, until one day a question popped up in my head that i just can't get a hold on myself.

Is there a point going to New Vegas before finishing Fallout 3? My original idea was finish Fallout 3, then proceed to the New Vegas area and go on with that, but would that work? Is that a possibility? Or does one "ruin" the experience if you go there first at a later stage? IF it does "ruin" the experience of going there later, is there a recommended point of the game where one can put aside Fallout 3 and go to new vegas without having to worry about getting shot to death the first thing that happens?

Actually most people find going to NV too easy, basically no matter when you do it.

We didn't modify anything on the FNV except stuff we had to (and a minor change to the Freeside train station).

The only thing stopping you from going to NV is the DC train station, which has a few SMs in it, one of which is a boss level heavy weapons SM.

I went from DC to New Vegas

I went from DC to New Vegas for the first time just to buy carrots from the cook in the camp McCarran, then I headed to Freeside and took the train back...

Sorry, I am sure you didn't want an answer like that, but i barely ever go to the NV side of TTW cheeky.

I generally do a bunch of side quests in DC, finish off the main quest, and get Broken Steel started before heading to the Mojave. After I get to the Strip and unlock the Lucky 38 I use that as my main base and bounce back and forth between the wastelands doing the DLC and any side quests I haven't done.

Once again, I can easily say i am overwhelmed by the replies and really happy that you all seem to care and want to throw out help to people that need it. I do believe my final decision will be to finish Fallout 3 as far as possible and then head for New Vegas, still unsure when I do the DLC part of things however. At least, parts of them.

Replies will still be welcome, i however have my choice and as i said, i appreciate the help by a lot that this community seems to be giving! :)

I tend to split the 2

I tend to split the 2 wastelands up into sections.

I always start on the DC side, so I tend to do the following: The various quests in Megaton, (Power of Atom, Wasteland Guide, Blood ties, and fixing the pipes.) any other quests I stumble into while exploring, usually things like "THOSE!", Tenpenytower and some AWOP quests. The Main quest up too and then including Waters of Life, get Li and the team to the Citadel, get PA training (though most times i don't have any PA), and then Trouble on the Homefront. Start Point lookout though it's "main" quest, with the tribals, and then head to NV sometime after PL.

Which leaves the Lone Wanderer/Courier with: a dead dad, kicked out of 101 again, and a pre-existing head injury.

Those facts are how I rationalize the Lone Wanderer leaving the CW for a time, with no dad, no home to go back too, and a head injury, that may well be the reason they survived Benny's shot to the skull. I usually want a change of pace, and new places to see. With the idea that at some point they decide they could come back to the CW's and change things there, and then I usually go right though to the end of Broken Steel. Then freely travel the wastes between both areas until I just about finish all the DLCs. Or get bored and start a new character/rebuild my game to try new mods. :D

Depending on if and how you

Depending on if and how you roleplay your characters, it changes. Right now I'm doing an asshole who occassionally misses his Dad. Megaton's still there, bomb defused, Arefu and Meresti Station are hostile though. I walked in with Jericho and after lockpicking the gate, stole stuff, walked in to the Family and lit em up. T'was a fun fire fight.

In dialogue with 3-Dog I was one grump motherducka. I might have shot at some Brotherhood soldiers to give their repaired armor to Jericho who can jury rig himself to use it.

Roleplay. And Risewild, thats the funniest thing I've heard. Next thing I know you're gonna start a produce train XD

I must say, some of these

I must say, some of these replies really caught my eye. Not just by pure help, such as "I go when i feel like it", or "Its all personal preference", but also the fact that people seem to bring roleplay into it, which i have no complaints about! In fact, i see exactly why people want to, and don't want to roleplay their games. Anyways, as earlier said, i still appreciate the overwhelming replies i've gotten!
