Time between train rides

Post by wario44 » Mon Mar 23, 2015 3:16 pm

So I installed TTW and started playing fresh straight out of vault 101.  It took me a while but I finally found Union Station and took the train to NV.  What I expected was to see some kind of message like "two weeks later" but instead I see "nine years later" what the heck? :P  A train ride across country from DC to Nevada should only take a few days at most.  Taking into consideration that a lot of the tracks might have been broken and the train might have had to take a lot of detours to get around that, it still shouldn't have taken more than 2 weeks.  Why nine years?  I'm just curious. :)

But not curious enough to search? Very well then. The first trip takes 9 years as sort of a grey area of everything that could've happened between getting on the train and waking up from your bulletitis. 9 years and not 4 because 4 is not enough for everything the courier supposedly did before the start of FNV. Subsequent trips are 2 weeks, I believe.

Ok I'm not pointing this question or comment directly at just wario44. But the one thing that I just don't understand is why anybody would want to go straight to Nevada out of Vault 101? Ok I can see if you are curious and you just want to do it once just to see how it all happens etc.. Ok I get that.  But if people are doing it to actually just play the Nevada side of the game then just play FONV. To me one of the best enticements of TTW is the ability to play the DC side (or FO3) while being able to use the FONV engine. And then when you are finished being able to then move on to Nevada making the timeline between the two games more logical. Not perfect but at least within reason. There is just no way to expect a logical timeline any other way.

My thoughts exactly. The difference in time between the two wastelands really is there to explain all of New Vegas's backstory without breaking canon, since we are in effect saying that the Lone Wanderer did everything and possibly more that the courier is supposed to have done. There's just no way to do that in two weeks or possibly even the four years that are between the two games already.

Also, there's a video which says 'nine years later.'

i hate my dad so much that sometimes i try to see how long i can leave him in braun's clutches.  9 years is a good start.
