There is an Unlimited Companions mod for FNV which is still supported called Unlimited Followers Everywhere which does a number of things such as allowing vanilla companions to go into DLCs, creating sandbox packages for them when told to wait (even Raul). This one, unlike others for NV, allows you to have Ed-E and Rex at the same time. Obviously, this does not work for vanilla Fallout 3 companions, but the same principles should apply, if anyone would care to look at it. I have talked a bit to Looca, the mod creator, about adapting it for TTW, but he really dislikes FO3. I do not have the skills or knowledge necessary to attempt to make it work for TTW. Apart from that, I find the vanilla FO3 companions to be even more boring and annoying that those in FNV, apart from maybe Lily.

It probably does. I tend to forget about that one since I do not use it. I mainly want the ability to step into a DLC and have a companion either come with me or wait without firing the companion rather than some elaborate control system over multiple companions. If I have Rex with me and want him to stay for awhile, and Ed-E's upgrades are ready I want to be able to grab Ed-E and send him back to the Lucky 38 without having to fire Rex.

On Charon's shotgun IIRC it was just a reskin of the Lincoln Repeater which is why the animations were used. (And it's OP status)
