I never use it, and I rebind

Post by RoyBatty » Wed Sep 02, 2015 11:43 pm

I never use it, and I rebind the key over to the other side of my keyboard because I'd rather use that key for something useful. I use Bullet Time when I'm overwhelmed which isn't very often. I miss the breath mod for sniping, I would use that.

I don't use VATS for pretty much all the reasons Tricky outlined, it's just not challenging or rewarding to me and I don't like having control taken away from me. It's like quicktime events, I intensely dislike those too.

These days, I go both ways.

These days, I go both ways. But I loved the hell out of VATS when FO3 first came out. But I wasn't playing the game for a challenge, I just wanted to digest the content, get all the loot, and win the game.

It'd led to me running straight towards all super mutants as quickly as I could so I can VATS shotgun them in the face, since that was the most effective way I could find to get past them.

Definitely made the game much easier when you can get away playing like that! But now-a-days, I like more realistic, immersive game experiences, so shy away from that behavior.

I think the point of VATS is

I think the point of VATS is to add an RPG element to first person shooting. I'm a terrible FPS shooter, so I almost always use VATS. It's not perfect and hoping the FO4 version will be better - it looks like time won't be halting completely in the new one, but I miss plenty of times in the current VATS - I think Project Nevada tweaks it? Doesn't seem overpowered in my current game.

If you don't like the message to press V, you could try http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47746/?

Well I actually do use this mod but for some reason the press v still pops up but I think only the one time for the tutorial though for some reason I seem to still get it after that since I never respond to and just ignore the tutorial prompt. Though actually technically it's not v since like RoyB I have also remapped the v key. But I actually use this mod to block all of the other messages that generally pop up. It works great in that regard. Thanks BTW to you and RoyB for this mod...

I'll admit when I first played FO3 I did use VATs for a bit but soon it became sort of lame to me. As mentioned by a few others it made the game to easy. It got to the point where I just completely stopped using it.

I too fail to understand

Post by Nofsdad » Tue Sep 15, 2015 8:03 pm

I too fail to understand folks who want something... especially something the use of which is optional anyway...  removed from the game simply because they personally don't like it but hey, it takes all kinds to make a community.

As for VATS itself, I started using it from the get go and simply fell into the habit.  I wandered around with a finger on the "V" key and it became automatic in most cases.  I didn't like aiming with that little cross hair that sat off to one side and even tried to use a scoped weapon when possible just to avoid it.

Now, with TTW, we actually have true iron sights in FO3 and I'm trying to wean myself onto that exclusively and VATS has become a secondary system and that little popup about pressing V to enter VATS never even catches my eye anymore.  I sometimes think folks tend to over think these things to a certain extent.

I love Bullet Time and would

I love Bullet Time and would use it more except even after all these years and thousands of hours... I forget it's there.  Memory was about the third thing to go as I got older. :/

I use it cause I just want to

Post by tizerist » Tue Sep 22, 2015 8:07 pm

I use it cause I just want to progress through the game and dying in combat is just a set-back.

When did 'dying in combat'

When did 'dying in combat' become 'just a set-back' in the game industry?

I think it was about the same time World of WarCraft came out.
