A Few Questions from a Returning Player

Post by siuking » Mon Mar 12, 2018 1:56 am

Hi guys,

I am a returning player to TTW. I did a TTW playthrough with mods a year or two ago, and obviously I believe a lot has changed.

I dont remember what version I played back then but there was a lot of work to be done to get it set up, then it was another countless hours of work to get mods installed, load order sorted out, and check for possible conflicts and cleaning up.

Unfortunately at some point I uninstalled everything and despite wanting to play TTW and trying out new NV mods, I really want to avoid the pain as much as possible (Trying to download big mods off Nexus and installing by parts in FOMM was time consuming enough).

In any case I have heard a huge update v3 is coming?

1) Is there a estimated release time? I have read that development is mostly completed and there was some trouble with the installer programming which delayed it, but it has since been sorted out. If it is coming out in weeks then I obviously should wait for it.

2) TTW instructions prefer FOMM over Nexus Mod Manager. However Nexus MM had been updated throughout the years and there is one very convenient thing about it - I can simply download mods off nexus with NMM without having to manually unpack and install everything. Is NMM a viable option now?

That's all the questions I have for now. Thanks for the help!

The version you played was most likely the same that is still available for download on our download page.

There is no estimated time for 3.1 to be released because we can't quantify how long it is gonna take to finish the installer.

Nexus Mod Manager is still broken as it was, even Nexus stopped working on it and totally abandoned it. So no, NMM is definitely not recommended still.

so I guess I should play v2.9.4b then? I have seen a lot of bug fixing and improvements in the v3 patch notes and I wonder if I should simply wait for it.

Really? That's a shame. I have started using it since I played Skyrim and it worked fine.

As I said, I am mostly attracted to its ties with Nexus mod download method, I hit "Download with NMM" and it's in my PC, unpacking GBs size of mod was a huge pain in the ass back then.

I wonder if you guys know anything like that?

I'd go with Mod Organizer 2

I'd go with Mod Organizer 2 dev version atm, it is working fine with TTW and has nexus download integration.

That's fantastic. So it is literally an improved NMM?

NMM is it's own disaster, MO

NMM is it's own disaster, MO has always been superior.

I keep using Mod Organizer 1

I keep using Mod Organizer 1.3.11 for Fallout NV personally, and the new version for Fallout 4. Is Mod organizer 2 that good for NV?

I still use MO1 and it's fine

I still use MO1 and it's fine, but MO2 has had some work done, and is usable. In my opinion if you're seasoned and already have a functional MO1 there's not much reason to change...

I prefer MO2, I've not had

I prefer MO2, I've not had any issues with archive invalidation like I had with MO1. YMMV.

I'm currently using MO2 on FO4, and it's working well in Windows 7. I'm thinking about using it for TTW once 3.1 comes out.
