Custom Race and Pip Boy Clarification, new user here

Post by 7ty7 » Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:29 pm

Hello everyone,

I just registered to say hi, congratulate the team on their awesome mod (haven't tried it, but I BELIEVE).

Also seeking clarification on a couple of things before I embark on this journey of epic proportions; its that same feeling when you're rolling the stats for a character in BG1 knowing one day that very same character will stand before the Throne of Bhaal. Epicness!

Anyway, reading through the forums these days I've seen that there are issues with custom races and pip boy mods like the readius.

From what I've gleaned so far the custom race issue will strike at Vault 101 tutorial section and at Tranquility Lane, due to child models etc. I was planning on making a Daughter of Ares character (robot) made by James (hi dad!) and kinda just ignoring the first few minutes of playtime (being born etc) and RP it as being made. I think it could make for a really cool character concept, if not very novel. So for Vault 101 the workaround seems obvious since I remember you could redo your character just before leaving the vault, so at the beginning just make any random placeholder character and then do the real thing just before leaving the vault. So far so good right? But what about Tranquility Lane? Do you guys have a workaround or a dirty hack where we can just skip that part?

On the other hand, I also read you can asign a child race to your custom race, but is it as simple as opening up the GECK and assigning for instance caucassian little girl model to my robot Ares baddass?

For reference, this Ares mod I mention is   http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53683/?

So that's one thing I had on my mind.

The other concerns handheld versions of the Pip-Boy. Since  I started using them a while ago (Readius in this case) I've come to really hate how the Pip-Boy looks on the arm. Can anyone offer some suggestion or workaround. Again, from the posts in this forum I understand problems will arise in tranquility lane (again!) and operation anchorage. Other than skipping those, or enabling handheld pipboy replacers after doing that contents (simplest solution I guess right) does anyone know of an alternate solution or workaround.

Thanks in advance, sorry to barge in here asking for stuff in the first post, but since I have some free time soon, I'm planning how I'm gonna play this mod, which I'm really looking forward to.

EDIT: just realized this is a long ass post, and this edit made it even worse. Have mercy please XD.

Yes.  You may still experience problems with your custom race at the beginning of Broken Steel however.  Absolutely no guarantees.  Custom races are not supported at this time.  You may have to convert this mod or something.  http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6240

Read the FAQ, and use AFF if you must disable the Pip-Boy.  http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/faq#whatfnvmodswork

Yeah sorry I forgot to mention, I read the faq and was aware of this, I was wondering if someone knew some other way since Readius in particular isn't very uninstall friendly. Also, Pip2500 which is recommended I believe refers to arm version, not the handheld version.

So basically, I can follow the faqs instructions with the handheld version of the PipBoy 2500 and have no problems? If that's the case then problem solved I think. Thanks.

As to the custom races issue, that mod mentions a problem with Broken Steel I wasnt aware of. So far we have Vault 101, Tranq Lane and Broken Steel slideshow as custom race issues right?

101 can be bypassed by redoing char at the end.

Personally I've played through TL plenty of times in the past, wouldnt mind skipping it

And there's a mod that can possibly be coverted to fix Broken Steel.

If no one is aware of any further issues, I'd say I'm good to go!

EDIT: Except skipping TL part, do you think that would be hard to do? I don't have a lot of geck experience.

EDIT2: Duh I didn't think of it at first, but you could also setqueststage with the console, right?

The Daughters of Ares page

The Daughters of Ares page has a TTW patch.  It's designed for 2.1, but should still work for 2.6.

that's quite retarded of me to miss that. Thank you for pointing this out farmerboy.

Also, in case anyone came to this thread with similar questions, there's this mod:

Custom Race Ending Crash Fix | Tale of Two Wastelands

for the broken steel issues with custom races.
