I want to play FO3 GOTY.. but I don't.

Post by Andr0idOS » Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:29 am

Hey guys. So I really can't make up my mind about whether I want to play FO3 GOTY with mods, or another TTW run with mods. I've never played through FO3 on the PC, so I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of mods that haven't been converted to be TTW compatible, but at the same time I don't want to play it due to it having MANY issues, such as not liking Windows 7/8 or quad cores etc.

The lack of an NVAC equivalent is also a serious drawback. Fallout is very crashy. I've played through TTW (2.4a) once already (FO3 only) and was seriously impressed. I LOVE having hardcore mode and NV mechanics in FO3, it's so hard to go back to ancient old FO3. I played to level 5 on vanilla FO3 before installing TTW, and I didn't like how weapon mod kits were set up, I really didn't like the lack of an MCM, I didn't like the faux hardcore mode with that stupid triage thing, and I didn't like the way ammo weight was added to the name in brackets.

While playing through TTW, I felt very limited in how I could mod the FO3 side of the game, for example I'd love to check out mods that expand the DLC's, I feel The Pitt is FAR to short and closed off, and Point Lookout is kind of boring. It was very nice to have NV mechanics like I said before, and Project Nevada with my beloved MCM. NVAC is also a god send.

So, with TTW 2.6 being released I'm considering installing it onto my new computer (built it around a month ago, coming from a sh*tty 1.7GHz dual core laptop) since I can actually play it above 20-30 FPS, and more importantly... ENB! I don't even know how the hell I played without that before, it's so damn ugly without a good ENB.

So essentially what I'm asking is, can you guys help me decide whether I want to do another TTW playthrough, or if I should suck it up and deal with a crashy, glitchy FO3 for the mods that aren't yet TTW compatible. I really want to give TTW another shot, but at the same time I'm curious as to what I'm missing out on when it comes to FO3 mods.

Thanks!

Seeing as most of the best

Seeing as most of the best mods are already converted from FO3 to this and avaliable on the site and the majority that are not converted can be easily done using FNVedit and the script. I would say dont limit yourself,  TTW is rather stable I'm playing heavily modded and have had 2 minor errors that have already been address on here.

Cool, I'd honestly much

Cool, I'd honestly much rather play TTW anyways the old FO3 mechanics are... painful, to say the least. Just wanted to know if there are any awesome mods or other reasons to play through regular ol' FO3 GOTY.

Is there somewhere I can read up on how to convert mods? I have FNVedit but I've so far only used it for creating merged patches. I'm pretty resourceful, if there's a way I'll find it eventually.

Anyone else play TTW with Digital Nightmare? If so, how has your experience been? That was a very troublesome mod for me in TTW, I had to constantly re-activate it to keep it working. I was probably just doing something wrong, or it was that damn laptop, it glitched out on a crap ton of applications.

There are loads of converted mods on this site, and as long as the mod you want doesnt use FOSE, converting is a pretty straightforward process.

I havent heard of your particular problem with DN. If it was a conversion you made yourself, you could ask in chat if anyone had trouble converting it. If it was a conversion you downloaded from here, you can describe your issue in the appropriate thread.

Even without things like NVAC, FNV is WAY more stable (and by extension, so is TTW) than FO3. I would recommend you play TTW and banish the experience of native FO3 from your memory.

There isnt a whole lot you miss out on by playing TTW over FO3. There are a vast number of mods that arent converted yet, but only because noone has done it yet, nto because it wont or cant be done.

There are some FNV things you have to avoid though, like MMUE and NVEC (though I think there are patches for all the versions of NVEC. Check the threads) and a few other mods that (moronically) repurpose unused FO3 records, and the perfomance mods that delete/disable them outright.

We have a bugfix compilation for TTW (YUP+Unofficial FO3 Patch+misc extras), we have a KICKING RAD train station to take you to the Mojave, we have a Project Nevada patch, a WMX patch and PANZER, we've got a bunch of mods that were once FNV only, affecting the DC wasteland (WMVM and Quick Trade for starters), we've got TTW Interiors and even now, TTW is still considered alpha.

Why are you even debating this, son?

Awesome. Just what I was

Awesome. Just what I was looking for! Yeah, DN didn't seem to like that laptop in particular... I really didn't like that piece of crap.

Thanks man, that's really all I needed to know. I gave up on MMUE after reading about it on this forum, even before I actually installed TTW. (Native FO3, that's the word I was looking for! Hate it when that one word eludes your mind >_< )

Looking forward to finishing FNV with my current character and re-installing TTW. I miss blowing up cars and watching the awesome domino effect it could have. >:D

Personally I play both. But

Post by paragonskeep » Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:45 pm

Personally I play both. But that's only to "test" mods to see if they'd be worth the conversion process. Currently playing "Obsurum" on the FO3 side. (But won't be converting that one)

If life is but a test, where's the damn answer key?!?!?

Hmm, if you play both then

Hmm, if you play both then you're in a prime position to help me with one last question. :)

In FNV, I'm currently using NMC's texture pack with EWI's big pack over top, combined with Rudy ENB, the game looks completely different in an epic way. Is there anything else besides NMC's for FO3 thats a high quality texture replacer? I have a high end PC (core i5-4670k@4.4GHz/Nvidia GTX 770) so the higher quality, the better.

FO3 texture packs should be compatible with TTW right? Not like there's (usually...) an esp with them that needs to be converted.

Correct.

Correct.

We've put some general information together here about using texture packs. Any replacers that don't use a plugin are fair game.
