merging files

Post by freakydoo » Mon Nov 03, 2014 9:03 pm

what tools and process do you use for merging file. not a merge/bash patch, but an actual merging of files so you can get esp's out of your load order. i was using an older tool months ago but cant remember what it was  and i think it's an out dated way of doing it. i like to grab clothing mods an add them to my loot list, so npc's wear them. the old Sunglasses mod is especially nice when you see random npc's wearing them.

just looking for some thoughts, opinions and know how...

thank you!!!

FNV Edit. One record at a time. Add master to the plugin you're merging from, renumber new record FormIDs to the plugin you're merging to. Then start copying data as overwrite into. For conflicting records only copy the changes needed.

You can use Edit for that, yeah. Depending on what you're doing sometimes Geck is the better option though.

i know how to do it in GECK

i know how to do it in GECK so i will likely stick with that. i find fnvedit intimidating. basicly, im merging closing mods and adding them to the leveled list if the author has not already done it. i miss out on a lot of really good clothing mods cause i wont get them if they are not incorporated into the leveled list. it feels like cheating and i'd rather see them randomly on NPC within a lore type structure. i wont give the latest tactical armaments to raiders, for example.

I use the Merge Plugins xEdit script to merge my mods. I've very rarely had an error and clothing/armor mods are generally the easiest to merge. I know you said you don't like FNVEdit, but this script is very easy to run and simplifies the process a lot. On my current playthrough I have about 30 mods merged (mostly armor/weapons) and it took me about five minutes to do.
