Travelling from NV to DC for the first time.

Post by Coolmanbob » Mon Nov 04, 2013 7:28 pm

Hello, I recently installed the mod successfully, and set the load order in Fallout Mod Manager to the specific order as directed (I only activated the Bobbleheads mod for the optional changes).

I am using three other mods (listed in the following order, at the end of the load order) CONELRAD Radio Mod, dD Enhanced Blood, and Nevada Skies.

I loaded my game, went directly to the train station terminal, and purchased a ticket (500 Bottlecaps were removed from my inventory, and a train ticket to DC was added).

I entered the door to the Train to DC, walked to the switch on the wall, and activated it. I received a message that I must purchase a ticket to New Vegas if I want to travel there, and the only option I was given in the text box was to 'Remain in DC'

I left the train, and then the train station, and was still in New Vegas.

Is anyone aware of why I was unable to go to DC for the first time? I am excited to try this mod out but can't do anything with it yet.

Wait, are you saying you started in NV ? You were supposed to start in DC. That's the cause of the glitch I think since the first train ride is tied to the NV start I believe.

That shouldn't have happened.

Continuing from an existing one, I'm at level 50 and have completed all of New Vegas including the expansions. I decided to re-visit 3, and that was when I ran across this mod.

The interior the save file lists is the Train to D.C., but the switch I try to activate treats me as if I was in the Capital Wasteland already.

Using an existing New Vegas

Post by Bastian772 » Tue Nov 05, 2013 10:02 am

Using an existing New Vegas save is not the cause of this bug. That's what I did and so far the mod has been completely free of gamebreaking bugs for me. In fact the ONLY bug I've experienced aside from the improper Hellfire Loot list that I already fixed for myself, is the missing statue texture in a select few places (and a fix for that has been posted as well). I'm able to travel between wastelands just fine. It sounds like the electrical switch to take you to the CW got switched around with the one in the CW's train to take you to NV. I don't know how that possibly could have happened, but it seems to be exactly what you're describing. I'd recommend verifying this through GECK if you know how to, otherwise a reinstall may be your best bet.

Disregard that advice.

Disregard that advice.

As the guy who wrote the script for the travel method I'm telling you that if you start in New Vegas (or use COC to teleport between wastelands) it is going to confuse the hell out of the train. Good news though, if you use "COC Springvale" it will take you to DC. From then on YOU MUST USE THE TRAIN, because it handles a lot more than just movement, it also turns on and off radio stations and triggers the NV intro (doesn't apply to you since you already did that).

After you COC to Springvale, your pip boy will still only play radio stations from NV. If that bothers you, ride the train to new vegas and back.

All this is why, on the alpha page, it says a new game is required.

OK, from my save standing in Freeside, without having discovered the Union Pacific map location, I typed 'COC Springvale' and warped successfully to the Capital Wasteland.

My map had changed to the Capital Wasteland, and I had selected my one and only active quest, 'Return to Yes Man' for the Hoover Dam Wild Card ending. The waypoint was correctly routing me to the Union Station, so getting to the train was easy. I sneaked my way there, and outside of killing a few radroaches and a mirelurk king near the train station, the only other things I did were 1) discover the locations 'Dukov's Place' and 'Union Station', and 2) get ran up on by Bryan Wilks and forced into dialogue. I went ahead and exhausted the dialogue options and received the quest 'Those!'. After receiving the quest I didn't return to my pipboy until getting back to the Mojave.

I entered the station, bought a ticket, and saved my game on a fresh file right before entering the train. I successfully arrived back in the Mojave, and opened my Pip Boy. DC was still the map on display, despite having returned. I closed it and attempted to leave the station back into Freeside, which caused the game to crash on the loading screen.

I reloaded, and this time took the train to the Mojave, then immediately purchased a ticket and rode the train back to DC successfully. Upon arriving the correct radio stations became available, and I had the text prompts for the five DLC packs pop up and the related quests became available in my Pip Boy. The map was the Capital Wasteland, however this time the Yes Man quest was no longer routing properly, and was acting as if the map were displaying the Mojave. Not an issue, obviously, so I switched it to 'Those!' which seems to be routing correctly.

Anyways, I let all the text and quests go across the screen, saved at the exit into DC, and am about to begin the game. First mission on my list is to go to Vault 101 and try to trip the main quest somewhere at the beginning, I saw a thread on here about it so I'm going to read some threads here before moving forward.

Thanks for the assistance, Jax, I'll playtest the game for a little while and as long as it's in decent working order (definitely going to get the main quest going) I'll make up a guide on how to get everything in order.

The routing issues are a vanilla problem, no real fix for it the game just gets confused sometimes. If you are on a modded game, especially a HEAVILY modded game, you are going to get instability. TTW is MASSIVE and it doesn't take many mods to kill it. IF you post your load order, I may have more info.

COC springvale, ticket to NV, ticket to DC, is the only known way to get it all straightened out. By all means, report back though!
