TTW Too Unstable

Post by BrokenC » Tue Jul 30, 2013 2:52 pm

I've been on-and-off playing TTW for a week or so. I say On-And-Off because the game puts so much pressure on my more than adequate system or else has too many serious bugs that make the game, at least for me, unplayable.

I find myself frustrated that I can't enjoy Fallout 3 or New Vegas in the way that TTW promised me for more than 40 minutes without it causing system-wide errors, which thus-far; nobody has been able to locate. I even lowered the graphics specs to their lowest and while it increased stability slightly, the game is hideous and removes all immersion from what is otherwise some of the RPG games ever produced.

I look forward to a substantially more stable Beta, or a general release in the near future. But for the time being, my adventure with TTW is over.

Truly tragic. Though your assertion that TTW promised you anything is humorous by itself, the rest of your post seems bleak and so full of despair. I hope you soldier on towards the future.

It is probably worth noting that the only way things get fixed is with information. If you cannot identify a problem, and you are the only one experiencing it, chances are it aint gonn' be fix'd boyo.

I will answer the post in the same style you wrote you complain:

My TTW is way more stable then the original Fallout 3 alone. So its great, the best ever!

Seriously: Load Order, are different mods used. What are you system specs. Do you use NVSE 4GB version etc.

BrokenC, of course that's your decision but understanding why you're experiencing performance issues may ultimately lead to some understanding which we can use to help lots of other people.

From what I understood, BrokenC's not using any mods besides TTW, so he's having performance issues with just TTW and FNV installed. Its either something quirky with his pc, or the TTW installation or FNV installation. Could possibly just be one minor setting. I don't can't tell for sure. Could be you need to lower your graphics some, its difficult to diagnose the problem if you don't try troubleshooting one thing at a time and different areas. I remember having an Radeon card that just did not like something in my computer and would frequently black out my screen and kill my audio and visual/video completely. Then I got my Nvidia card, and things ran smoothly again. It might of had to do with my motherboard not cooperating with the Radeon card.

I've had seemingly complicated problems that had simple fixes. People here try to be as helpful as they can be.

Hi all,

Post by BrokenC » Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:49 pm

Hi all,

Firstly, thank you Alegendv1 for helping to explain the situation.

My TTW is way more stable then the original Fallout 3 alone. So its great, the best ever!

That's great for you Darkersun, unfortunately in my case, TTW just can't match the stability that I had in F3 or F:NV. Which is shame and in the event that a fix CAN be found...I may be the happiest forum goer since the first person to discover the rickroll.

The Problem:

After an approximate amount of time (in most cases between 25-45 minutes), the game will freeze and black screen. The generic 'FalloutNV has stopped working' error will pop-up and most of the time, I'm able to alt-tab and close it. Not only can you surely understand my frustration at having to play a large-scale immersive game in half-hour blocks, but when ever it black-screens a 1/4 second sound byte loops around my system. I can't find the source or remove it and a system reboot is required.

What I've done to try and resolve this:

Load Order:

Was my first step. However, the error occurs using either a vast amount of mods including Project Nevada, WMX, DarNifiedUI etc... or using absolutely nothing more (as Alegendv1 correctly stated) that just the required files.

NVSE 4gb Launcher:

Yes. I am using the launcher, however it's use does not appear to have significantly impacted on the occurrence of these errors.

Lowering in-game graphics:

Possibly the only thing which has had ANY impact. However, all it seems to have done is extended the period of time before the crash occurs and with my settings as low at they are (Bloom, x8AA and pretty much the lowest settings across the board otherwise), my gameplay experience is severely diminished. Things just don't look nice.

I WANT to play TTW sooo much, it's the perfect concept for the perfect game in my opinion: Take the engine of a superior game and then make the prequel better than ever. Worked for Black Mesa, it should work here. If we can find a fix, I'll happily share any information which would stop this happening to other users in the future.

I've attached my dxdiag. And before anyone asks: I have already uninstalled everything and done a clean install of NV, TTW and any mods (which were added later.)

Thank you.

I would try changing bMultiThreadedAudio to 0 in the falloutprefs.ini file and I would update your drivers if possible.

I will answer here the same way I answered on another thread. Windows 8 + only 4GB of ram is almost certainly your problem.  Did you build this system yourself or buy it from a manufacturer? Have you ever done a clean install in it? What is your idle RAM usage?

Hi Jax,

Post by BrokenC » Wed Jul 31, 2013 3:51 pm

Hi Jax,

I built the machine myself. You may be right about Windows 8, but all of my research has led me to believe that it's more efficient with it's memory than Windows 7, not less. As RAM controls how well your computer can handle multiple processes at once, it very rarely affects single processes like games by maxing out. My idle RAM usage as I write this is 30%.

I ran some Hardware Monitoring software while playing TTW, and the RAM didn't appear to be under too much stress. The CPU was being spiking to 100% very consistently, which concerns me. I can post my RAM, CPU and GPU usage during the game, as well as their Temps. if that would be of any help?
