Can the steam version of New Vegas be used with the disk version of Fallout 3, or vise versa, or must they be the same versions?
Question on game versions

Which version of New Vegas
Which version of New Vegas you use is mostly irrelevant. The disk version of Fallout3 and the steam version both work, but only if you bought the game of the year versions.

I am using the steam version of NV but I am using the retail discs for FO3 and all of its seperate retail dlc discs. TTW does work with with non game of the year edition FO3 and its seperate dlc.

For most it does there can be
For most it does there can be some issues with BSA's not patching properly but there are workarounds and we are currently working on the issue. I personally have installed it with both Steam GOTY of FO3 and the Retail disk of FO3 with all DLC purchased from GFWL.

I`m not sure what version
I`m not sure what version you say you have, g4wl don`t ring any bells for me. I myself have the original fo3 version that don`t use steam and I bought the dlc expansions as they were released when new. I am not experiencing any the problems in the areas you mentioned. The only places I have trouble with is one radio cache and seirra petras house crashes when trying to enter them. I occasionally get a random crash when loading a cell but that is about it. If I can get away with running the earliest retail versions with minimal problems, then whatever version you have should run about the same.

I've got G4WL FO3, no issues
I've got G4WL FO3, no issues with using it with TTW, though I've been extremely lucky compared to most people (who have the major issues) in regard to every major issue ever... ugridstoload=7 for me, OWB made a lot of changes it probably shouldn't have. Question: Do you use ANY mods at all? If so you've just become my official test monkey, and you wont like it or possibly even agree to it, but if you do I'll make sure you're one of the most knowledgeable noobs (means non regular person around here, it's a term of endearment *most of the time*) when I'm done with ya.
