New to TTW

Post by Shardoom » Sat Jun 22, 2013 11:27 am

Ok so I haven't actually downloaded or installed TTW yet, but, I definitely am going to.

What I was wondering is will the mods I'm running for fnv affect the gameplay when I'm in DC, ir would I have to download mods to do that specifically.

I'm thinking about body replacers, Electro city, Nskies, NMC's texture pack. (Although I'm fairly certain that will require a F3 version)

There are probably lots more that I haven't thought of, or don't even know about yet.

(Don't actually have F3 yet, bought it just to play TTW :))

So yeah, any information or advice on mods I should take would be appreciated. :)

For starters uninstall all

For starters uninstall all mods you already have installed for New Vegas. :(  In order to properly patch NV, you need a clean game otherwise there will be missing meshes...

After that i wouldn't install any mods until i reach Megaton, because they can be problematic for the beginning.

I haven't had any problems with mods, but don't expect Nevada Skies or Electro-City to work outside of New Vegas, try TTW Fellout or Project Reality NV, and TTW StreetLights if you want a similar experience in DC. There shouldn't be any problems with body replacers if you did as i said earlier. Have fun, and enjoy the stability of the Capitol Wasteland. ;)

Think of this mod as an entirely new game. Needs all clean new files installed nothing tainted (modded). That way you can at will any time disable TTW and still just play FO3 or FONV but again New Clean install is a must.

Sucks I know but totally worth it especially when 2.3a drops here soon!

Sure it breaks immersion, but it doesn't ruin it... And besides which breaks immersion more, having to mess with mods after the beginning, or big giant red (!) marks where there should be a weapon?. Anyway I'd still check out this mod if i was you. Fallout 3 was a good game, and if you add all the features New Vegas had you got a pretty awesome experience, so it's worth it in the long run.

Also even in vanilla FO3 it wasn't advisable to have mods during the vault 101 beginning, that part of the game just doesn't like mods broken heart. And it is not halfway, it is after 20 minutes or so of playing (I take less than that but I played that part so many times I just fly through it cheeky ) while the actual game will take you many many many hours of play cheeky.

Think of it like it's a basic tutorial mission, after you beat it you will access the full game laugh including mods.

I guess, I suppose I could just do it a few times with various characters and then save with each of them when I reached Megaton. Using those saves (after modding the games) as future new games. I suppose that'd work and fix the immersion breaking.

Personally have not tried this mod but I've used similar mods in other games in the past and they've always added that extra "Humph" to my game being able to "Alternatively"  have a different start.

Again I have not tested this myself but will in my future play through possibly soon when 2.3a drops.

Ok, so my Fo3 goty finally came, had a little play around with it. (installed the 4gb enabler and Fose first of course, along with NMC's textures)

I think I'm going to hold back from using TTW though... I LOVE the premise of this but honestly after looking around in the Forums and FAQ's a bit. It's quite confusing, now I'd assume any mods that you want to apply to the game must be applied to FNV's load order (since it's using FNV's engine) but I've not been able to even find out something as simple as this for certain.

I'm guessing any texture mods will be fine for each game as they don't actually change the way the game play's in any way, yet again I haven't seen any legit documentation on it...

I use the Darnified UI for my FNV, now I know there is a FO3 version but would I have to install that and make all the modifications to the ini, or would the mod I have in my fnv load order just overwrite into FO3?

Basically what I'm trying to say is couldn't someone who's played both games a lot, used lots of mods and has ALSO used TTW successfully create a starters guide? Something to guide the nooby and downright dumb into the world of TTW?

I think, for now at least I'm going to just split my gaming time between these two marvelous games. I've never played FO3 before so it's brand new to me and some mods I've recently installed for FNV are making that an almost new experience too. I'd like to think that, in time, most of the biggest and greatest mods for these two games can be merged into one mega TTW compilation. Until then I think I'll leave it to people far more capable than I to get this mod there.

(Also I'm really REALLY reluctant to give up my NVEC mod, that thing is a BEAST and from what I have gleaned from this forum completely game-breaking when it comes to TTW)

Post by MrMedicinal » Fri Jun 28, 2013 8:00 pm

Personally i have had a much better Fallout 3 experience with TTW, and i put in like 20+ playthroughs, and had to have been 1000+ hours of HEAVILY modded Fo3 GOTY before New Vegas even came out. Than continued to do the same for New Vegas, both Fallout games killed my social life for months, after each release lol .

There are much more features that come from vanilla New Vegas that make Fallout 3 much better, and should shorten up your mod list that you would otherwise have for Fo3. Installation was quite easy since the installer does most of the work. (The only thing you have to do is uninstall your New Vegas mods TEMPORARILY until the game patches. )

Quite frankly i think you are missing out on a lot, but too each their own i guess .
