How do NV mods affect TTW?

Post by Sarcasm » Fri May 03, 2013 5:50 am

Hi there, I've had my eagle eye on this mod for a long, long time now, probably since before this site went up. Now I feel like I need to try it, but I'm a bit confused on how mods will affect content between the two games. Namely, I'm curious about:

1. How does the NV Mod Configuration Menu work with FO3 content and leveled lists? If I use Project Nevada's MCM to set my experience income to 10% of normal, will this affect Capital Wasteland experience as well? If I set Improved Wasteland Spawns to increased spawns in MCM, will this affect Capital Wasteland spawns? What about FO3 DLC content?

2. Are leveled lists separate between the games? I've read a lot of talk about unified leveled lists on the forums here, but I see conflicting comments. Will NV mods affect FO3 leveled lists? I've read a lot of people say they do, but others who say they do not.

3. What is your plan for spacing out new version releases? I see there have been 2 or 3 new version releases in less than two months. Impressive progress, but I'm worried about new versions coming out too quickly for me to really get a feel for the previous and test it out. I see you're holding a mod contest and given mod incompatibilities brought by new versions, I'm guessing you're planning on sticking with 2.2b for a while?

4. Incompatibilities. I see NVEC is fatally incompatible at this time. Are there other major NV releases that absolutely cannot be used?

5. Most importantly: How do you recommend a person new to TTW play at this point in time? I suppose I'm wondering what your focus is on as far as testing goes. Are you mainly focused on testing stability of the FO3 content, in which case I assume I should play with no mods, or was that the focus of version 1.x ? If you're more focused on testing NV content, cross-game content, or mod compatibility, would that mean I should run TTW with only a couple key mods, or can I go to town and run as many as I want?

Any answers would be, by me, appreciated. Thanks !gula

Project Nevada xp setting

Project Nevada xp setting will carry over to FO3. Spawns, not so much. If you add a mod that adds more monsters to vanilla spawn points it'll carry over. New monsters will carry over. Anything that changes or adds more of the spawn points themselves will have to be done to both wastes.

I have no plan for version releases, as I have nothing to do with that. Jaxfirehart will release a new version when the new version is ready to replace the version we're on now. 1.4a was around for awhile but 2.0 changed the game (again) and still has some issues that need to be worked out. He's not opposed to once a week updates either if they are needed.

Mods in TTW: The official stance on mods in TTW is that the game is alpha for a reason. That said, most people do run whatever mods they desire in TTW and it's usually not an issue. Most people tend to keep a modded TTW folder and a vanilla TTW folder to check out anything they come across before reporting anything. As far as non mod related issues right now they are working fixing the issues that popped up directly related to TTW, but will be starting vanilla bugfixes for both wastelands soon.

Here's my thoughts and take

Here's my thoughts and take on this.

TTW worked great at 1.4 and from what I've read even better now.

I could'nt get most of the normal increased spawns to work, I use a stand alone by MMM to increase spawns and it works flawlessly, overall for a modded F03 play I've had next to no crashes or slow downs with FPS (that I couldn't fix in game).  I've had a real good time trekking through the F03 game again with the FNV system plus mods...Found that I really liked F03 much more than FNV, playing Old World Blues kinda killed the fun for me so I'm on to other games for my down time.

For my Load order I have Project Nevada, WMX, Project Interoirs, all of my released Gamefever Mods, EVE, quite a few home and exterior location mods such as K2 stuff, and pretty much I have a list of 100 active mods.  I use a stand alone plugin by MMM to increased mobs and respawn them, so kinda low variety on monsters but plenty of them.  Overall I found TTW to be ready for play offfering a more stable enviroment than F03 did, I won't lie it takes time and effort to get your mods from F03 to work but most FNV mods work straight outta the box with TTW for sure.

1.  You need to realize that

1.  You need to realize that F03 is useing the FNV lists so to speak they are not seperate entries, developers kinda copied and pasted everywhere for ease of use.

This means that raiders in F03 and FNV have same loadouts, so mods will affect both regions.

I have not gotten IWS to work as it should with TTW but that has more to do with spawns being hand placed.

I use a standalone MMM increased spawns and respawning spawns for that.

2. Leveled Lists are not seperate between games

3. No idea I'm just a poster and I play TTW

4. Never used NVec not sure what else is strictly incompatible, myself if I want it enough I might get a file working IDK

5. I recamend playing now.  With mods, lots of mods.  Of course you have to be responsible start with no mods get TTW running and of course get out of 101 becuase 101 hates mods even in vanilla F03 it hated mods.

I play with tons of mods whenever available for most games, I ussually go with stuff that enhances gameplay mechanics or adds content makes the game more difficult where appropriate.
