Super Mutant DT

Post by Table Man » Thu May 09, 2013 5:04 pm

I'm not sure if I'm the first person to bring this up, but does anyone else think the Supermutant DT is too high in the capitol wasteland? I understand a DT had to be substituted in for them and they're supposed to be tough, but it's actually at a point where I can't even penetrate their armor with a 5.56mm/Chinese Assault rifle (though that could mean the assault rifle is too weak).

Anyone else feel this way? Or am I just being a sissy?

I agree, I'm just not sure

I agree, I'm just not sure what to do about it. Currently DC mutants are equal to NV mutants. So I either reduce both DC and NV mutant DT, which goes against TTW policy on not modifying the base game unless absolutely necessary, or I can reduce JUST the DC SM DT which begs the question why are they so much weaker than the NV ones?

Super mutants are tough.

Super mutants are tough. There's no denying it.

I think this is an awesome improvement over vanilla Fallout 3! Crawling through the DC ruins is as tough as the BoS hype it up to be.

I guess it depends on where you draw the line between challenging/fun and too much pain. But if the stats for the Fallout 3 supermutants are the same for their NV counterparts, I'm in favor of keeping their DT as it is.

There is a first aid box in like, literally every single interior cell in the capital wasteland. Deathclaws are tough, too - so you don't go guns-a-blazing into Old Olney or the gypsum quarrys either.

They are much stronger.

They are much stronger. Playing Very Hard on Hardcore, and getting through the Museum of Technology was a pain needing lots of QuickSaves. By the end, I was all out of ammo. I do feel that they're DT is a bit high...

I'm all for tough enemies,

I'm all for tough enemies, but I'd rather have smarter enemies than just beefed up ones. I love the idea of tough supers. Just like Tricky said, it really follows the BoS hype, but at some point, watching a SM take 5 Hunting Rifle shots to the face and not going down is just not fun.

Super mutants in both

Post by JaxFirehart » Thu May 09, 2013 6:51 pm

Super mutants in both wastelands have 15DT which is the equivalent to Combat Armor. Which really is quite extreme. But the real problem is all that DT plus 100 HP. They are almost as strong as Giant Radscorpions. Personally I would drop Super Mutants down to 8 DT (little over leather armor), put the brutes at 12 (metal armor), the masters at 15 (combat armor), the overlords at 18 (little better than reinforced combat armor) and the Behemoths at 20 (combat armor reinforced mk 2). And drop their life a chunk also currently its 100, 260, 350, 800, 2000 (SM, Brute, Master, Overlord, Behemoth). I would drop it more to around 75, 125, 200, 300, 500.

Might do this and just see how it works out, but I really don't want to start ANOTHER new character...

Don't soften the Behemoths. I

Don't soften the Behemoths. I mean come on, Lyons has you grab the Fatman out in front of GNR for a reason, they're supposed to be insanely difficult. The rest though, absolutely.

Supermutant are supposed to

Post by Ikki » Thu May 09, 2013 8:23 pm

Supermutant are supposed to be tough : level 3 charater should not begin with the downtown DC quest and should come back later with a correct equipement (an open world don't mean that a player can do everything straight away)

The 15DT are not hard to bypass with the correct ammunition, or perk, or with a character able to deal critical damage frequently ...

Even with a low level weapon they are manageable : and fallout NV contain a lot of very powerful weapon

Smarter enemies are more fun

Post by TrickyVein » Thu May 09, 2013 9:19 pm

Smarter enemies are more fun to battle than tougher ones. I agree, rbroab. The vault 87 SM just isn't very smart :|

Comparing them to giant radscorpions shows them in a different light though. It's a leveling issue.

I think this has changed my mind - making the stats for both kinds of supermutants the same would make sense *only* if they were the same kind of enemy - but they're really not.
