i am think about making a open fallout just like openMW by using them as a base

Be prepared for years of work and the most valuable skill is team management you have to have. It is simply not possible alone. I wish you best of luck and I like the idea when something substantial shows up I will offer help too.


Sadly I am not very confident that it will work out. I follow the OpenMW project for years now and I am astonished about their dedication. There are only very few people with this characteristics.


But as I said best of luck and if there is real progress to be seen I offer my help.

I wouldn't risk a C&D if I where in your place. It isn't that hard anymore to make your own assets. Sure you need knowledge in a 3D editing program (which one of the better one is free) an texturing is with the new available tools easier then ever.


The biggest advantage you have then it is all yours, you can do with it what you want.


At least that's the route I have gone and how I make my own game in Unity. I thought about using OpenMW too because my game is about exploring and I admit Beth inspired wink (steal from the best wink but I am talking only about principles here not assets ) but the same restrictions and work that has to be done that we talked about stopped me too.

Either way would take years even with a full team, UE4 would take even longer and require huge amounts of new assets. Do you realze how big FO3/NV is, how complex it is, how many thousands of man-hours and millions of dollars went into making it? Do you have a team? Are they reliable? What are your talents? Do you have any idea what you're setting out to do?
