what's required of ttw to make beta?
When might TTW be considered Beta instead of Alpha?

Betas are generally feature-complete.

do the optional files count as features? maybe when those are all stable and fully-tested, it would be beta? (not that it seems like they don't work yet)

We're not doing a beta. This
We're not doing a beta. This project will be alpha until it isn't anymore, at which point it's either finished or the devs are finished.

What TJ said is right; also
What TJ said is right; also alpha's are generally restricted to internal testing, but we are releasing ours to the public. So we are alpha in that we are still making drastic changes to how TTW works, but we are beta in that we have non-contributors testing. If TTW has a beta period it will be short. The main reason for the alpha tag is so that it is clearly stated and understood that it is not in a stable state yet, nothing is guaranteed and that it is the mod creator and the mod users responsibilty to deal with any changes we introduce.

i'm still trying to convince
i'm still trying to convince people to forge our own path and adopt a different classical language's alphabet for use as a release grading system. i'm pushing for sanskrit, personally, but chinese would be acceptible too.
