I was wondering. Once you go to Nv for the first time, can you return again at any time or are you stuck there till the end. I'm wondering because i just took the train there because theres a weapon i wanted that's only available there and as soon as i activated the train it said 9 years later and then the NV charater development intro in doc Mitchel's house began. Do you have to create a who new character and all new stats now, because i already did that in FO3. Also is the 9 years part correct. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i recall officially theres only a few year difference between FO3 and FNV. All i'm asking is is it safe to go there before i complete the FO3 story, or do i have to do that first.
Going to New Vegas for the first time.

edit: got ninja'd while typing ;)
At the moment there is no restriction to travel between the two wastelands (except caps for the ticket) also you don't have to create your character new at the doc. The time advance (which I think is correct) is already implemented in preparation for changes that will come (but it shouldn't hurt normal FO3 quests) here.

It is safe to go there, but
It is safe to go there, but to be able to go back to DC you need to walk all the way to freeside since that's where the NV station is located, and it won't be marked in the map (so no fast travel to it until you go there for the first time).
You will have to buy a ticket to go back to DC from the terminal so you will need 500 caps.
You don't have to create a new character, the game will skip that step, just walk to the vigor-matic like the Doc tells you and then he will skip to the "follow me to the exit" part.

I think cjb is mentioning the time advance because Fallout NV happens four years after fallout 3 and not nine years.
I don't know anything about changes that will come so I can't say if in TTW those nine years are correct or not though

Chuck and I discussed it at length and we decided to push the events of FO3 back 5 years, to give the lone wanderer more time to do all the things the courier could have done. Its a huge change, but purely cosmetic.

Ok, that would make the Lone Wanderer 15 years old at the time of Fallout 3. Are you planning on implementing that age change. Also are you guys adding any new armors and other items to both games. I remember reading something about new Talon armors being made. If so might i suggest adding a few new dresses for female characters to wear on the strip that would hopefully be compatible with a wider range of bodies. Seeing as how the Type 3 dominates the clothing and armor world and not everyone uses it. I was thinking something along the lines of that slinky dress mod for NV or something based off of Vera's dress.

Wow, FIVE years? I would have thought 1.5/2 years max?
Why five?

First off, yes, EVERYTHING is
First off, yes, EVERYTHING is pushed back, so the LW is still 19 upon exiting the vault.
And honestly, the main reason for five years is because then we have a 9 year gap between games. 9 Years is long enough for the LW to have wandered all over the west and even settled down in the Divide for a few years.

... I'm not too sure about the thought of a 14 year old running around doing everything that the LW does... 19 just seems more appropriate...

Sorry Jax, I got a kick out of this. All the TTW team did was increase the 4 year gap between 3 and NV. To do that they pushed 3 back. Yep, all of it. You don't have to worry about puberty when you get out of the vault because that got pushed back too. Fallout 3 no longer starts in the year 2277. It starts in 2272.
