Lore references

Post by paragonskeep » Sun Jun 07, 2015 9:01 pm

Hi All,

Was curious as to what sources everyone uses for "lore".

I typically go to fallout.wikia.com

Are there any others that are good and can be trusted?

Thanks

Nukapedia and The Vault are the two I use. 95% of the material is identical between them but the remaining 5% can be helpful at times. The other source is myself and the team who have put in tens of thousands of hours playing ALL of the Fallout games. We aren't always right, but we can get pretty close a lot of the time, the wikis can give us a boost and, worst case scenario, digging through the FO3/FNV game files gives a definitive answer, when the information is available in those games.

If you are more interested in learning a lot of the lore, than looking up specific things, the Shoddycast over on youtube does a really well done lore series for Fallout

I usually use The Vault or Wikia for quick reference. I've been playing the Fallout series since I was 12 (10 years) so I've gotten pretty familiar with how everything works and the lore behind it all...Still have yet to read the Fallout bible though, it's on my list of things to find/download/read

as the least lore

as the least lore-knowledgeable member of the team, i've probably only put a couple thousand hours into the games.

perms:  either a full fireworks display spelling out "Puppettron Made This" anytime a user accesses my content in-game, or just give me credit somewhere.

Eh, their facts might be ok but they shot super wide on the tone. Their first video starts with narration of an unnamed scientist talking to 'father' (God, obviously) and saying a bunch of stuff about mankind knowing sin now they've invented the atom bomb. Anyone who listened to any of the Fallout intros knows mankind's 'known sin' since approximately about the time they "discovered the killing power of rock and bone". Half the point of Fallout is that even though the human race succeeded in literally ending the world in nuclear fire it did pretty much diddly squat to human nature. War, War never changes.

Thanks all. I'm familiar with the above listed. I've watched shoddycast episodes and I have the fallout bible. On a note of that do we know of any contradictions or retcons that Bethesda did to the lore?

Thanks.

This all is for a story series I'm working on that could be used for mods or just for a (hopefully) interesting and fun read.

  • The world doesn't appear to be really set 200 years after a nuclear war

  • You can find Jet in pre-war containers

  • Instant ghoulification

  • Harold is a tree, on the East coast

  • The BoS cares about locals

ANOTHER source of FEV was contrived as well as another source of super mutants that isn't Mariposa. The Enclave has ANOTHER base on the East Coast rather than just the Oil Rig. Vertibirds are seen being used in flashbacks before the war in the Fallout 4 trailer though they were really just prototypes at the time.

The BoS gripe always bugged

Post by Obdulio » Sun Jun 14, 2015 10:39 pm

The BoS gripe always bugged me, I mean every person is an individual with their own opinions and lives on life  no matter where they are from, is it really so out there that someone in the BoS would care about locals? It just so happened to be someone in a position of power in that chapter and its not as if they all a agreed in unison... there wouldn't be the outcast that left Lyon's BoS. Then theres the fact they are not the main BoS as the Outcast want to take Lyons back to the real leaders and have him put infront of a firing squad for treason.

Also look at Veronica she also believes the BoS should change and would probably prefer Lyon's Chapter over her own.

Not to mention Lyons has recruited wastelanders into his chapter of the BoS so those wouldn't be all about the traditional codex.

Lyon's BoS doesn't seem that much of a stretch to me especially after its been so long after FO2 and that they've traveled across the wasteland and like i said they are not THE BoS they're the chapter sent out to scout that area.

Though what is a shame is that such info will go over the general public's head if they don't pay attention so they'll have the misconception that BoS are the knights and shining armor that Lyon's Chapter comes off as and not the tech hording fuck you world Outcast.

  • The world doesn't appear to be really set 200 years after a nuclear war (Very True, although it's been touched on)

  • You can find Jet in pre-war containers (So it's a "after war" drug? I always thought it weird to find bottlecaps in safes that were to be "pre-war")

  • Instant ghoulification (Moira I assume)

  • Harold is a tree, on the East coast (This was explained as a progression on his mutation)

  • The BoS cares about locals (Only Lyons Chapter, I think a big portion of this was during the Scourge)

(FEV could be used by multiple corporations if it were that important to the Enclave, I think a big portion of that and Enclave vs BOS was to have common grounds with the previous games. Vertibirds weren't in service yet? Did not know that. I'll have to look more into Mariposa and possible contingency plans for the Enclave)

Thank you Tricky those are helpful.
