Do we have have a list of inconsistencies or discrepancies between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, yet? Lately I've been playing non-Tale of Two Wastelands Fallout: New Vegas, and besides the Courier not knowing what FEV is when conversing with God (or Elijah? One of the two) in Dead Money, I don't know if I've seen any others. If anything, I've found things that supplement consistency between the two games; without Veronica explaining it, the Courier is fully aware of who the Brotherhood of Steel are and even what their Codex is. Granted, I also haven't gotten super far into the game - I only just started Dead Money after upgrading the Securitrons in Mr. House's bunker - but I've played the game front and back in the past and didn't really notice any immediate discrepancies back then, either.

You could argue that being shot in the head made him forget some details from DC, like what FEV is. Or maybe he left DC before learning about FEV from the Enclave. Lots of people leave DC before getting that far in the main quest.

IIRC, In Honest Hearts the Courier makes it seem like he doesn't know what Christianity is (the Lone Wanderer grew up knowing about the Bible and passage 21:6, in the Capital Wasteland he can talk to the priest in Rivet City, in Point Lookout he can talk to Marcella).
The Courier can get their brain removed in the Old World Blues DLC, but then go to Point Lookout where they get brain surgery, even when they don't have their brain back.

James never seemed to really tell him a whole lot about religion, since you can ask a little more about it in Point Lookout. I just assume the Lone Wanderer/Courier only learns bits of it at a time. At least until they get Scripture during Honest Hearts. They can read that book all they want.
