Random Idea for integrating the two games

Post by tan620 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 5:34 am

First of all, I'd just like to say that I absolutely love the mod.

Second, I'm not sure if it'd be possible, but I had an idea to better integrate the travel between DC and Vegas. I played a lot of the Elder Scrolls games, and they typically use letters for introducing new areas, questlines, important NPC's, that kind of thing. It gave me an idea for this mod.

After some reasonably early quest (I was thinking saving or destroying Megaton) you could get a letter from "An Anonymous Benefactor" asking you to come out to Vegas to make a delivery for him. Included would be a train ticket, and it would start a quest that would help you navigate to the train station.

Starting in the Mojave would be a little harder to figure out because it's kind of time travelly, but that way makes sense at least. (Maybe you could get a letter after dealing with the Powder Gangers in Goodsprings one way or another, saying that your dad had heard about your exploits and would love to meet you)

In my play through, I usually "role play" it similar to FO1&2, my protagonist back to Vault 101 one last time, save the day, and being banished from home vault forever.

"Boss, there is a caravan from some place called NCR"."My friend, my trusty friend Charon said, "They have a city totally run by ghouls. I am going with them, wanna join us?"

My heartbroken PC say yes.

It makes slightly more sense than someone from DC finding their way out to the Mojave for no real reason. Not even knowing if there's anything out there.

Except maybe that he's just lost his dad and discovered the local groups are all dicks. Maybe he's looking for something better, and the saying "Go WEST, young man!" is as true in the game as it was years back. Unless you're in the NCR - then it's go EAST. laugh

On second thought, let's not go East. It's a silly place.

I would up-vote you for this, but I don't have that option yet. laugh

Another important fact to consider, is that it is entirely possible that the train might not have even gotten you the whole way through to Las/New Vegas.

My headcannon is that the character very well may have crossed a considerable distance on foot over the states

Actually, from Lonesome Road, we know the Courier originally came from the NCR. My head-canon is that he took a plane to California, then worked his way East to the Mojave. Much more realistic than taking a train since we've seen very few working tracks, only tiny stretches like the one from the quarry to the facility where they turn it into concrete. Even then, we're only told it's working by the guy at the quarry.

If anyone following the "reconstructing Fallout 3", there may be some sort of "silk road" styled trade link between 2 coast.

On the other hand, even if we have to go west on tracks, I think a handcar like the one in The Pitt is more convincing than an electric/nuclear powered locomotive. Anything wrong along the track, and you will literally ended up into a train wreck.

Unless the train has some kind of "smart" computerized automatic driver and track diagnostics system. wink
