Our journey from the capitol wasteland to the Boston commonwealth begins in Washington`s institute of Technology. Inside of this building rests a device(much like the one used to create Tranquility Lane) in the Vault-Tec exhibit. Nearby it mentions that the simulation is based on a real married couple living in Sanctuary Lanes, Massachusetts. The sequence begins much like the beginning of Fallout 4:the player(who in the mirror is shown using the default templates of the corresponding gender), they get settled in, the robot takes care of the baby,Vault-Tec comes and confirms their entrance into the local vault, the bombs start dropping and the couple enter the vault. The simulation ends, and being a curious cat you decide to find out what had become of these people. You go through the metro system and end up in a nearby town over in Massachusetts within a few days. From there you head up to Sanctuary Hills to the vault shown in the simulation. All is not well in there. Everywhere you look is another skeleton and radroach. You make your way through the vault and find the cryogenic chambers. It does not take long to find that couple:both shot and killed. Determined to find out what happened to those people you find and examine the security tapes. They unveil the killer and scientists extracting an infant and eliminating the parents. You vow to bring justice to these people and save the child if at all possible. Here are notes regarding certain changes. Some dialog options and responses have to be altered to fit the new content(like Codsworth talking to you instead of one of the spouses).

This is basically the thorn in the side of every idea to re-imagine or alter Fallout 4's main quest in any significant way. It's not feasible.

Yeah, you are right. To change things that much would require a boatload of work on top of the engine changes. The only thing that preserves the story is a time machine. However, it may be too tongue in cheek(and can possibly be a cliche). At least I would have an excuse to name my character Kyle Reese. :P
