FO3 Skeleton Foot Collision To Wasteland Ground

Post by GrindedStone » Sat Jun 18, 2016 11:32 pm

I noticed in TTW the wasteland actors are clipping thru the ground just a little bit in some areas.  You think there is a difference between the FO3 && FNV skeletons or the ground collision was different?  Anyone notice this issue?  I mean, it's not beyond being ignored an all, just that working with armor we tend to set this precise or collision in general.  Want me to try to fix it?  ROFL  *having a blast in TTW*  Thanks  o/

mmmh, AFAIK this happens in NV too - I often am drowning a bit in some areas, while in other areas I slightly float. doesn't this happen to you too?

Well yeah.  This seemed

Well yeah.  This seemed strange though.  Some inaccuracy of the collision meshes will do this.  It just seemed werid because it was the ground doing it.  *puffs cigarette*

I figured it out.  FO4 has ankles that bend to conform to collision on the foot.  FO3/FNV kind of does that with the knee, but it doesn't have ankle bones, thus it clips into some angled grounds.  That's why it was weird because of upgrades, we played FO4 an got used to it that way, but FO3/FNV did this an we just ignored it or didn't stand there.

FO3 / NV ankles are the joint

Post by Anacostia Crossing » Sun Jun 19, 2016 12:50 pm

FO3 / NV ankles are the joint between Pelvis and Thighs, they have no IK. The IK should be only in the joints between Thighs- Claves and Calves-Feet. If you can manage to play around with IK, you not only could add it on ankles, but you also would solve a big problem I have on a mod of mine. And I think even SubNeRoCL needed that.
If you'll go for it, you have all my bless!

There's a lot of missing LOD

There's a lot of missing LOD objects so they stand on the ground until you get close enough for the objects to load.

I thought about it yesterday, an it seemed like a huge can of worms.  I'll look into IK though it sounded interesting.  To be clear though, I decided to opt out of fixing this particular issue because back in the FO3/FNV era we just ignored this particular issue, an over time didn't even see it, cause we were not looking or not standing there.  That is a little bit funny though looking back, because games older than FO3/FNV did have this human element of animation interaction with terrain.  Made me smile thinking about older games trying to run advanced an expeditionary presentation for lack of a better word.

Though, it also presents the divide of gamers somewhat where many thought FO3 && FNV were just too buggy an glitchy to play it, an the other gamers that just kept playing an ignoring things.  Then later people wondering why we did that, and why at least somewhat described now, cause we just ignored it an wanted to play.  It's hypotetical but Skyrim has 2-3 times larger of a player base I believe.  I think the reason why is appeal an the ability to overlook imperfection.  Who said we can't learn stuff from games.  ROFL

I noticed it because I'm used to play in 3rd person. But if you check around, you'll see many people usually play in 1st to Fallout, I can't say with certainities but I really feel it's at least a 90%.

It also helped me to notice it when I started modding these things.

And last, I even noticed there are a couple of (a lil popular) mods that kill the knee IK but noone has ever commented about it - which should confirm that not many notice that.

From steam's graphs, there's like 2-3k persons on NV and 30k on skyrim. Skyrim's over FO4 too, even if DLCs just came out.
