Anchorage gauss rifle : balance/consistency issue?

Post by Question » Thu Jul 23, 2015 1:15 am

Aside from the fact that it has the same name as the NV gauss rifle (which is used everywhere else by NPCs, etc) but different stats, it is massively overpowered IMHO.

The normal gauss rifle does 120 damage per hit, 60 crit damage, has a 2x crit multiplier, 80 item hp and uses 5 MF cells per shot.

The anchorage gauss rifle does 100 damage per hit, 50 crit damage, has a 5x crit multiplier (meaning it will basically crit all the time), 0 spread, 1500 item hp and uses only 1 MF cell per shot. It also seems to have a script that causes a 100% knockdown chance.

The normal gauss rifle is already powerful enough to kill deathclaws in one hit, IMHO the anchorage version is over the top compared to the NV one.

Okay, so what do suggest then? The way I see it, you had to fight your way through an entire simulation just to get it. If you feel it's overpowered, then don't use it. You have other options. I really don't feel the need to tone every weapon in the game to be on par with one another. Some weapons will be strong, some will be fair, some will be weak.

I'm not alright, I'm an equal amount of left.

The version you get as a reward is the NV Version. I understand it is the only version available in the TTW game. Perhaps the Gauss you get while playing the DLC is different from the one you actually get to use outside the DLC. I do not know because I use the mod which allows me to by-pass that DLC.

My computer specs are too embarrassing to reveal, but the game still runs.

and where'd you get your hands on the original OA gauss rifle?

There is one to take in the armory after the sim.

And it is different. I consider it a unique though. It has a different pipboy icon and as he says different stats.

If you are playing TTW, the one you take in the armory is the NV Version. It is not different.

To repeat what others said, the reward Gauss Rifle from Operation Anchorage in TTW is the NV version, it was changed because in TTW NV things that existed in FO3 and it's DLCs takes precedence and replaces the old versions.

The team haven't reached an agreement of what to do with that Gauss Rifle, on one hand we could make it a unique and balance it somehow and give the knockdown effect again, on the other hand like Question mentioned the FNV one is already a beast of a weapon and one can make the OA dlc quite early. So we will think if we should change this particular weapon once we reach the balancing stage of TTW.

My mistake, i checked TTW.esm with FNVedit and noticed that for some reason a lot of the overriden forms were showing errors, which probably caused me to get the original anchorage gauss rifle instead of the NV version. Resetting the ESM flag via FNV edit seems to have fixed it.

Making the sim version gauss rifle work the same as the NV one would probably be good from a consistency stand point, except that it uses 5x the ammo and ammo would have to be increased in the sim to compensate, so it would probably be too much work.

If you want to make the anchorage reward gauss rifle a unique version though, and not break balance, you could probably just give it the same stats as the NV gauss rifle, 2.5x crit multiplier and call it the "Anchorage Gauss Rifle" or something to distinguish it from the regular gauss rifle. That shouldn't be broken.

But you still get the stealth fielded Chinese Stealth Armor in DLC Anchorage, right? So it isn't replaced with the non-stealth fielded FNV variant? (Not sure as I haven't played Anchorage with TTW yet, but it seems so when checking in FNVEdit.)
