Vault 101 security armor DT too high?

Post by Question » Fri Jul 17, 2015 5:04 pm

With both the vest and the helmet, it gives a DT of 10 which is sufficient to render every weapon during the escape segment ineffective except for the baseball bat. I think it should be rebalanced so that the weapons available during the escape segment are still effective against it (as it was during the original FO3).

For the record, when i went through the escape segment, the laser pistol did 10 damage, the baton did 9 and the 9mm pistol did 9. Only the baseball bat could break the DT threshold of the armor.

From an immersion standpoint.

From an immersion standpoint...What would be the point of stocking the vault with body armor if all the stocked weapons in said vault could penetrate it and render it useless?

I'm not alright, I'm an equal amount of left.

Ironically I just touched on

Ironically I just touched on that here

Basically, it's ALREADY toned down below other vault security armors. Tone it down any farther and we may as well just give them regular vault suits (might be an option). The other option is to maybe give the player some AP rounds or a perk that allows them to bypass some DT while in the vault.

Also one does not have to

Also one does not have to fight and kill any guards at all... I know I never fight or kill anyone while I escape angelI do let Amata keep the weapon, then she kills the guy for me and I can loot the security office without the overseer getting hostile laugh.

I know its already toned down

Post by Question » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:58 am

I know its already toned down compared to vault 34 armor, but consider that the original vault 101 armor only had a DR of like, 12%? Because its meant to be literally "start of the game armor". In comparison, Raider armor actually has higher DR in FO 3. I don't think it's too unreasonable to balance the vault 101 armor with the raider armor as a guideline, otherwise it shoehorns players into using the baseball bat during the escape segment.

I just started a guns character and used the bat anyway, because it's fun!

I see your point and it makes

Post by Risewild » Sat Jul 18, 2015 1:20 am

I see your point and it makes sense, but we have to make it kinda consistent between the wastelands, so why would vault 101 have much worst security armor than other vaults?

Mmm maybe we can work around that by making the Guards have less health somehow?  that way would take less hits even from weapons that do not bypass the armor to kill.

I am not trying to say that we shouldn't decrease the DT or dismiss your idea, I am just trying to first find other ways of not having such a difference in vault equipment in each wasteland, since FNV settings and values are always applied over the FO3 ones in TTW unless a really good reason is provided for not doing it.

I'd vote it should remain as

Post by AnvilOfWar » Sat Jul 18, 2015 1:50 am

I'd vote it should remain as it is. Is it a good set of armor at the start and in the vault specifically, yes.

Let's be really honest here, "vanilla" F:NV/TTW is way more forgiving then it likely should be, Vault Security Armor should protect from the weapons in the vault. It's designed for crowd control after all. Start adding some overhaul mods like Project Nevada, or RWED and that 10 DT becomes the difference between you dying in 1~2 bullets, to actually being able to kill one of the guards if they have pistols.

You aren't supposed to kill

Post by RoyBatty » Sat Jul 18, 2015 2:05 am

You aren't supposed to kill the guards for one thing, but you can if you want. Also I've never had a problem killing them with the 9mm or Laser Pistol. Learn to aim ;)

Well, I vote for restoring

Well, I vote for restoring the 10mm pistol to the Vault. It is consistent with other vaults, it hits harder, and it obeys Fallout lore. But that is just my opinion.
