Timeline Question

Post by manowar » Sat Jun 27, 2015 3:43 pm

I had a question about how Tale of Two Wastelands work. So obviously merging two separate characters into one isn't lore-friendly in the first place. But I haven't used the mod and I'm aware you board a train and you go to the Mojave. I've read something about it being 8 years in the future or something? Wouldn't it be four years? When I go to sleep what date will be on my pip-boy? Won't npcs be talking about 2281 events?

I realize if I was to ever go back to the capitol wasteland it'd be weird to hear Three Dog still talking about my tales, but I can live with that if I'm just visiting or whatever.

Thanks for your help.

Who's to say it's not lore

Who's to say it's not lore friendly, there is all manner of wacky and weird stuff in all the Fallout games, so pretty much anything goes if you ask me. Interplay and Bethesda don't follow their own lore.

So this is a question that's been asked repeatedly and the passage of time - nine years - between the events of the two games was decided upon because when it came down to it, there was a .bik video that said 'nine years later.' At least that's my understanding.

If there were a video which displayed 'four years later' instead, I think it would have been the obvious choice, but there isn't one.

If we are saying, though that the Lone Wanderer is the Courier, then there is also this to consider: the Courier did a lot of stuff before the events of New Vegas. Those nine years provide enough time to 1) travel to the West (TTW's lore) and 2) do all of the things the Courier was supposed to have done including even perhaps visiting New Reno at some point, in addition to mucking about in Hopeville.

So as far as what's considered lore-friendly, we've sort of substituted our own timeline if you want to be a stickler about it - but only to support New Vegas's backstory.

Thanks for the replay. Well, that makes sense as to why it would do that. However in terms of gameplay, when I go to wait will it say 2281 or 2286?
