Additional grills for TTWOptions

Post by jlf65 » Tue Oct 18, 2016 12:04 am

As I run into grills I think should be active, I'll post them here.

There is a GrillBBQDirty in the raider camp next Dukov's place. The formid is 0a03346f. It really should be a TTWGrillBBQDirtyCrafting. The raiders clearly use it for cooking, having ingredients out on the counter next to the grill. I've already overridden it in my TTWOptions.

There really needs to be more recipes for cooking. You can't hardly make anything in DC but dog, brahmin, and mirelurk.

That's like 10% the amount of food you can make in NV, and at a much lower survival level. It's not a BIG deal - I may make a mod that adds what I consider a decent amount of DC food at different levels. If you like it, you can incorporate it, and if you don't it'll be a separate mod others can use or ignore as they wish.

I'm mostly thinking low level things like Bloatfly Slider. You can't make that in DC as you're missing prickly pear cactus. It's same with most of the low level food - you're missing ingredients that are only found in NV. I figure that there should be DC varients of all these things. I'll make some recipes, start a thread, get some feedback, and if it's good enough, you can work it into ttwoptions.

The grills are the important thing, and there won't be many of them. Just a handful at most.

In my experience, they aren't needed, there's plenty of food in DC. Once you start getting brahmin steaks and mirelurk cakes there's little else you need. The vendors sell plenty of food also.

Yeah, that's true. I keep a few brahmin steaks, a few steamed mirelurks, and several ice-cold nuka-colas and sunset sassparillas in my inventory for food. If I need something "light", I keep a few dog steaks.

Where the extra recipes come in handy is emergencies - you eaten all the brahmin steaks and steamed mirelurks, and you just shot a bloatfly or radroach... which you have to eat raw since there's no simple recipes for them. If you're using one of those mods where raw food makes you sick, it's even more of an issue. Not a big one, but simply being able to cook raw meat would alleviate most of that. For example, raw dog meat becomes cooked dog meat, not dog steak. It's a lower level recipe that isn't as good, but avoids the raw meat issue. Ditto for raw radroach, ant, bloatfly, molerate, etc. A simple low-level recipe to just cook the meat would get you through to where you can buy more brahmin steaks.

Like I said, it's not a BIG deal, so no biggy if it doesn't pan out. I can always make a mod for it. But I would love to see something like that, so thanks for at least considering it.

I'd love to see a few more recipes added for DC, especially things that are more friendly to lower level characters.  It seems like most of the stuff on the current list I either can't kill for a long time, is fairly uncommon, or requires a survival mag to get my skill high enough to make.  In NV my goto food for a long time is gecko steaks.  In DC it's mostly random junk food or raw meat.

I've been running this in my old NV install so long that I forgot I was even using it.

Simple Roasted Food is pretty much what I've been talking about - the ability to roast most meats at a low survival level in something not raw. It's missing a few animals from DC (as it's made for NV), but should serve as an excellent example of what I was talking about.

That's about what I was thinking too.  I'm not sure what he means by not being compatible with needs mods.  Does that mean it would conflict with PN?

There's some cooking mod I used to use that let you turn basically any kind of raw meat into charred meat with the only real difference in recipe being how many portions of raw meat it took depending on the size of the animal.
