I haven't touched armor repairing yet. The original mod allows for the creation of "armor plating" made from 2x scrap metal, to repair metal armors, but it is not comprehensive and the mod is hit-or miss on which light armors can be repaired by what. (You can make "leather patches" from belts and certain hides, but they don't work for all light armors.) I'd love to see someone make a TTW update of it, like they did with so many other great mods. Then I would give armors the same treatment.
I've been playing for a few hours with no weapon-on-weapon repair and it's really great. I turned 6 scrap metal into 2 "replacement parts" and I have 3 "weapon cleaning kits" - but the cleaning kits only work on weapons that are already over 50% repaired. In Primm (this is a FONV game, not a full TTW run), I have a 10mm pistol at about 40% repair but I don't want to use up my replacement parts because I want to save them to make WRKs in the future. So I can't use the cleaning kits either! Finally I paid through the nose (700 caps!) to have the quartermaster at the NCR outpost repair the pistol, and now I can use those cleaning kits to keep it in good condition. This pistol will now be a prized possession.
Also, since I can't combine weapons for easy transport and selling, I can't carry as much loot and I'll end up with less caps overall. This is definitely making things feel more scarce and run-down.
As for sharing it, unfortunately I messed with someone else's mod and I don't have permission to re-distribute it. But, to do thsi yourself, just download the mod, open it in the GECK, go to "Form IDs," and edit each and every repair list to remove weapons from them. Took me about 10 minutes.
If someone around here wants to make a proper TTW update of the Realistic Repair mod (who does those mod conversions? The devs?) then I will happily alter it to offer an alternative version like this.
