What do I actually do to use Fallout 3 mods?

What do I actually do to use Fallout 3 mods?

Post by LordShotGun » Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:53 pm

Currently ToTW is working just fine with all my FNV mods but I see all the converted mods in the forums for fallout 3 and I would like to use some of them. I did read that you don't actually use the fallout 3 directory so I shouldn't try to install to that location.

So what do I actually do? Like with Marts mutant mod I need the original source files right? As well as the converted files? What do I do with them? Same with world of pain. Really it is only these two mods I am interested in. Any help?

Edit: Chat assistance. All mods on the forums are ready to be used like a normal fall out new vegas mod unless it asks for the original fallout 3 assests, in which case put that data into your new vegas folder and replace the ESP and ESMs with the ones from this forum.

You would install the Fo3 mods as you normally would. Accept you put everything in your FNV data folder instead of the Fo3 one. Then you would take the esp/esm and if it isn't already available here, converted for you. You would need to download and install the TTW conversion tool and use that to convert them yourself. You can find it on the Alpha page along with the instructions on how to install and use it. You also need FNV edit for that to work.

Depends on the mod, but his edit pretty much explains it for using mods on the forum. If you watch some of gopher's old tuts about FOMM and installing FO3 mods, they'll teach you to create your own packages to use in your mod manager of choice. It's really easy most of the time.
