Does me having the German versions of both games prevent me from using TTW?

Hi,

I tried to install it and I ran into several errors, which I ignored, and then after ~one hour this pops up:

[23.06.2014 21:44:37] Patching Fallout3.esm...

[23.06.2014 21:44:39] Your version of Fallout3.esm cannot be patched.

Currently Tale of Two Wastelands only works on legal, fully patched versions of Fallout3.

I have both games in Steam, Fallout 3 Goty (German low violene :( ) and F:NV with all mods (seperatly) (German low violence).

Any way to fix this?

You can use a copy of your language for FNV but FO3 has to be an English copy.

I'm not a part of the team but they are concerned with compatibility.

You can send to them your instal.log to improve compatibility with non-English copy of FO3.

I'm using Windows 7 and it can be found in:

C:\Documents\My Games\Tales of Two Wastelands

The instal.log should be there. If you cannot find it, try to search your saves or Fallout.ini and Falloutprefs.ini, you should find the Tales of Two Wastelands folder next to it.

Here are the logs from my multiple attempts at installing TTW. I encountered (as you can see by the file size) quite a few error, the majority of those installing the voices, but also some installing sounds, landscapes etc.

Those are indeed quite helpful, thank you very much. It is still going to be some time before we can patch non-english ESMs but we are working on allowing non-english BSAs. What this means is that you can get audio in German, but all the text will be in English, for now. To do so you MUST have steam and you MUST have the option to download the game in different languages.

Backup your german copy of Fallout3. Call it Fallout3 - German or something.

Open your steam library, right-click on Fallout3 and choose properties.

Click on the languages tab and choose english from the drop box. Click close.

Steam should start downloading an english copy of Fallout3. If it does not, verify the game cache using Steam.

Once the download is done, backup your now english copy of Fallout3 call it Fallout3 - TTW

Restore the german copy of Fallout3 and change the steam Fallout3 language back to german

Copy the German BSA files (all of them) into Fallout3 - TTW

Start the installer, manually change the Fallout3 directory to point to your Fallout3 - TTW folder

Ignore all errors

Install as usual (as per the alpha download page)

Thing is I don't. You probalbly know that already, but in Germany only the low violence version is sold which is only available in german (no idea why making it im possible to shoot of limbs keeps you from changing the language but hey).

As it seems I won't be able to use the installer because of the piracy filter, which is honorable but unfortunately keeps me from playing TTW.

I'll be "forced" to play the game the old way, which shouldn't be too bad either.

Thanks for you help, maybe its going to be posible sometime in the future :)
