Does me having the German versions of both games prevent me from using TTW?

Have something to say about Tale of Two Wastelands or have an idea for a new feature? Let us know here.

It means that you cannot

It means that you cannot change the language at all?

If you can put your hands on the English plugins of both games , you can translate them with this:

ESP/ESM Translation: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29457/

You will find a German database to translate your plugins quick and easy. For the TTW plugins, do a pass with the FO3 database and the FNV database after it.

I hope this will help.

Video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock'n'roll...

Those are indeed quite helpful, thank you very much. It is still going to be some time before we can patch non-english ESMs but we are working on allowing non-english BSAs. What this means is that you can get audio in German, but all the text will be in English, for now. To do so you MUST have steam and you MUST have the option to download the game in different languages.

Backup your german copy of Fallout3. Call it Fallout3 - German or something.

Open your steam library, right-click on Fallout3 and choose properties.

Click on the languages tab and choose english from the drop box. Click close.

Steam should start downloading an english copy of Fallout3. If it does not, verify the game cache using Steam.

Once the download is done, backup your now english copy of Fallout3 call it Fallout3 - TTW

Restore the german copy of Fallout3 and change the steam Fallout3 language back to german

Copy the German BSA files (all of them) into Fallout3 - TTW

Start the installer, manually change the Fallout3 directory to point to your Fallout3 - TTW folder

Ignore all errors

Install as usual (as per the alpha download page)

I was able to do this earlier this week by mistake with the Spanish version.

The thing I did though was to run the installer with the Spanish version, till it says that fallout 3 is not official (which is when I realized the error), then I downloaded the English version and ran the installer, but I used the files that it had earlier (I didn't redo them). The fallout 3 game ran in Spanish, eventually I redid the installation, but I hadn't found any problem.

Is there anything I can do to help or support your work on a multilingual (in my case german) installer?

Do you need any infos from the german version, install-logs or any other data?

Appreciate your work!

I am working on it at the moment actually. The more install logs I get the better though.

Hi JaxFirehart,

Hi JaxFirehart,

I tried to install TTW v2.6.3a.

For preparation I created a new folder (D:\TTW\Fallout NV) with a fresh Fallout: New Vegas + DLC (austrian version from steam) and another folder (D:\TTW\Fallout 3) with a fresh install Fallout 3 + DLC (german version from Disc).

Fallout 3 is version 1.0 so I installed the german v1.7 patch.

In the german FO3 Version the executables are NOT Fallout3.exe but Fallout3ng.exe. The "ng" stands for "no gore".

So I renamed the 3 Files (Fallout3ng.exe, Fallout3ng.exe.cat and Fallout3ng.exe.cfg) to Fallout3.exe, Fallout3.exe.cat and Fallout3.exe.cfg.

After that I applied the austrian v1.7 patch.

Now I have the austrian uncut / german uncut version of both games.

Without this procedure the installer won't find the fallout3.exe.

Next Step was to install TTW. Here are my logfiles.

Hope this helps you!

If you need any further infos just say it.

Try it again (if you would)

Try it again (if you would) and instead of aborting when the error dialog pops up, hit ignore and go as far as you can.

OK, the error-window was to big, i didn't saw any buttons so i just press space.

Now this time i moved the window upward and pressed "ignore" ;)

here is my (long) log.

It ends with the info, that my Fallout3.esm cannot be patched.

If you need more infos about my installation or need me to do some testing just say a word.

That should be plenty for now

That should be plenty for now. We are building a blacklist of files to ignore if they are different.

That log was 2.5 million words long T-T

Or, if you prefer, roughly twice the current length of the Game of Thrones book series.

Have fun, Jax xD
