More water sources

Post by chaosislife » Tue May 20, 2014 10:14 am

Since we have hardcore settings now, and really really need water, we also need more vendors who sell decent amounts of water as well as some water sources like sinks and ....ewww...toilets added in various places. Case in point, I just ran thru rivet city's halls while dehydrated, and I could not find a single sink or toilet on the whole ship. Kinda squicky when I think about the lack of toilets and bathtubs.......ewwww....... If anyone knows of an accessible sink there i'd love to know where it is. The only toilet I've seen is the broken one before you cross the bridge. Surprisingly no one sells even 1 bottle of dirty water let alone clean water.....I'm going to die.

Get out of the city and drink

Post by Risewild » Tue May 20, 2014 12:46 pm

Get out of the city and drink from the river? frown

Also if you have the Megaton House or the Tenpenny Suite, your robo-buttler will give you five bottles of purified water per week (not much but at least its clean and free).

The thing about water in the capital wasteland is that there is plenty around in the river, there is almost always water in old buildings (sinks and toilets) and from some red Fire Hydrants in old streets (IIRC), but if you venture to the rocky wasteland or many caves and sewers you better take bottled water, either purified or dirty, always remember to stash RadAway, since you will probably have to rely on dirty water most of the time until you beat the main story and start Broken Steel (Aqua Pura for everyone).

I could definitely see more dirty water being sold around the vendors of the Capital Wasteland now that it includes the sleep, hunger and thirst hardcore mode, but I also think that having little water available makes the main story make much more sense, since it is to make pure clean water to quench the thirst of the entire wasteland.

One thing I can suggest is get the "Bottle that water" mod TTW version that IIRC is around here in the TTW site, which allows (like the name suggests) to bottle water in empty bottles to consume later. yes

The problem with the river is

Post by chaosislife » Sun May 25, 2014 10:23 am

The problem with the river is that the bottle filling script that I use only works for sinks not the river, and the "More Perks" refill from toilets perk does not appear to work for DC toilets. I could take a couple sips for now........but a few game hours later I'd have to run all the way back to the river. The most water either dirty or clean that I've seen from a vendor was 3 bottles, i go thru 3 bottles fairly quickly with my hardcore settings as they are. Yes, I could just take the level down a bit, but i could also turn it off altogether... The fact that I find myself using the console for some such oversight every few minutes annoys me. It's not too horrible in DC food-wise but the game never really intended for you to eat as often as I have to. Honestly, if it wasn't for the dine and dash mods I use I'd prolly still starve since I'm in the red after a nap.

By what was said in this thread the mod called Solars Bottled Water seems to work perfectly in the DC side of TTW without the need for any conversion or change anything. Read that thread and I advise you to use that mod instead of whatever bottle water method you are using at the moment smiley.

Actually from the look of my mod list that's the one I'm using, i liked it better because it allowed me to recycle all those otherwise useless empty bottles. It could be a tad bit better for immersion if it didn't magickally turn them into regular water bottles, but that would require at a minimum, making a copy of each type of bottle, adding water to it's name, giving it a full bottle sound, and adding the bottled water effect to it. Even then someone will end out complaining that the whiskey bottle of water doesn't look like it's actually filled with water. Oh and you'd need two of each for dirty and purified sources. The problem with rivet city still stands tho as there doesn't seem to be any place to fill bottles on the whole ship. I couldn't find a bathroom anywhere and that's just disturbing. And Solar's doesn't allow for filling from streams, rivers, puddles, water towers, or that stream of completely clean water that continuously drips at the base of rivet city's ramp that the water beggar up top apparently can't be bothered to drink from.

Make a patch for your mod/ vendor levelled lists. It's not hard. You can't really expect us to go drastically changing things in DC cause you got your needs levels set too high.

Well no that wouldn't be fair

Post by chaosislife » Mon May 26, 2014 12:48 am

Well no that wouldn't be fair, but I figured that it was using the original FO3 vendor settings, which IIRC didn't have any sort of need for food and water except as healing items. I just figured everyone would be having issues with starvation or dehydration, especially if they didn't use outside mods or cheats. And it would seem that anyone playing without cannibalism would likely starve eventually, as I've also got the vendors set to restock every 12 hours instead of the standard 3 days, tho I'm not at all certain that part of Project Nevada works with CW vendors. On top of those issues, I've noticed that a few alterations have already been made to blend the FO3 and NV gameworlds such as the vault guards having 9mm's instead or 10mm's, the CW vendors selling NV weapons and armor, the talons having upgraded and ranked armors and various other tidbits I can't think of just now. That being the case, turning that one empty room that only contains a few file cabinets and such into a unisex bathroom, which would be fairly logical on a ship, wouldn't really be too much of a break from the spirit of the mod.

Drink water from streams and lakes as often as possible. Keep your bottled water for emergencies. Take ranks in survival or be prepared to spend tons of caps at the various restaurants. Mirelurks can be steamed with purified water at a campfire for some decent food (and restores some dehydration). I play on Project Nevada ultra hard mode and struggle with survival at times, but never does it become dire. This is the wasteland after all, and not nearly as civilized as Vegas.

Ehhhh, bit moot since apparently the boat DOES have a bathroom, it's at the bottom of the stairs to the right. I've never seen it before cuz I've never had a reason to go downstairs since the only thing down there that I know/knew of was the bar.
