Suggestion: More/New ways of going to/from DC and NV

Post by malice936 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 6:19 am

The thought occurred to me earlier while I was sorting out one of the game crashing issues with TTW earlier. It's unrelated to the issue, but I figured I'd mention it just in case. The thought was "why would a train be the only method of transport to NV when there are many other modes of transportation all over the place in both games. Specifically I'm talking about the virtibirds, and many of the other functional transports like mothership zeta.

A simple example would be a small side mod that enables the player to find or purchase a virtibird sometime shortly before or after completing the main story for DC, or to have a signal appear on mothership zeta from the aliens in NV and allow them to teleport down there. These just seem like something that could be put in the optional files that would prove more realistic than taking a train all the way to NV. I'm probably shoehorning in ideas other people have had before me, but all the same I think it would be a popular addition to TTW.

The Mothership Zeta idea was debated quite a while ago and it was decided that TTW will have it in the future, so after you beta MZ you will be able to transport yourself to the Capital Wasteland and to the Mojave desert but that will have to wait until we iron out all of the bugs first.

Hope this helps .

Something else that would be cool is if Mothership Zeta could be triggered at the alien landing site in the Mojave if you have Wild Wasteland.

I like that Ret, make a bug report, so I don't forget. Unless someone can suggest ANY reason it shouldn't work that way? I guess if they could tractor you up from there, they could tractor up the crashed aliens... hmmm maybe not. Thoughts?

Wow that idea makes a lot of sense, I am always thinking about MZ related stuff and I never thought of that myself.

I like it .

Edit: There is really no proof they are crashed there, they might be there to retrieve the crashed ship or just inspect the damage it suffered for example, and then the player gets beamed to the MZ by accident when the aliens were retrieving the ones on earth. I think that makes sense... Even if it doesn't... it REQUIRES the WILD WASTELAND perk, getting it means the player excludes the right to complain about lore breaking stuff laugh.

Edit: Made the report .

It would be rather neat for those of us using XRE - Cars to have an option to drive back and forth. It would only open up after one has gotten to Vegas and acquired a car, but I think it would be fitting.

Initially, one would drive themselves to...say...that bit of I-15 in the far northwestern chunk of the Mojave where nothing ever happens. There'd be a toll booth. You get out, pay the 'toll', and then get a fade-to-black 2 weeks later screen. Next time you've got control you're standing next to your car near Canterbury Commons, probably parked near where the caravan traders like to chill, several thousand caps poorer(Fuel costs yo) but in DC. And then to drive back to Vegas you just trundle up to Canterbury, pay the toll at a booth installed there, and the reverse happens with you showing up at the toll booth on I-15 facing the other direction.

I do think it should stay a third party mod though.  I don't imagine all that many TTW players use the Cars mod, would be silly to include it as standard, but it would still be quite handy just the same. I'd definitely make full use of it. Would also mean I won't have to import my cars via the console :P

You know, if you have the repair at 100, of course who wouldn't, why not fix a motorcycle to run and take it to NV? They have all kinds of motorcycle mods and it should be easy to set one up, one would think. Any thoughts on that idea?

My main objection to that is that the motorcycle mod is...let's be kind and say obsolete. Static mesh that warbles around and plays unsynched bike noises, clips through everything, doesn't steer in any sort of a realistic way, etc. No thanks. I gave the J3X bike a try and didn't like it.

If someone put out a nice cross country bike or 750cc 4-stroke dirtbike on the XRE base I'd be all over it. But alas, nobody has, and I don't think that base even supports two wheelers. I'd also be all over a Reliant Robin and a T-34/85, but alas. Dreams and wishes, ya know?

Just wanted to *coughPLUGcough* my submarine travel method. It's a player home too, albeit a deliberately cramped one.

There's an update on the way which allows for travel to most DLC worlds too, in non-game-breaking fashion.

Ok I've got to ask..... How would a submarine realistically get to the NV desert from DC? Now I don't know anything about your mod but maybe the sub also flies? smiley
