Barkskin Perk/Spell Still Using DR

Post by chasing » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:31 am

I noticed in the Oasis quest the MS10BarkskinSpell [0006f590] is using DR instead of DT

I've noticed this in the past and was never sure if I wanted to make it DT or not. In the old Fallouts, DR and DT coexisted. In FNV, DT dominates but there are a spare few DR items. I was never sure if they were an accident (as in they were supposed to be DR and somebody messed up) or if it was done on purpose.

Technically, DT makes more sense. DT is armor, DR is general toughness (which, ironically, means the Toughness perk should actually give DR and Barkskin should give DT).

Thoughts?

i like having bits of DR here and there, especially on things that really shouldn't be able to stop a bullet or knife, but should provide some protection.  getting a few points of DR in sometimes makes more sense than a handful of DT, and is more useful.  i'd keep it as DR if it were up to me.

I like it giving DR to be honest. Jax is right about DT and DR but in Fallout NV they changed it -_-' so since now armors give DT I think bonuses like getting your skin harder and more resistant should give DR (like the chems we can take to increase DR that still exist in FNV), so let armors give DT and perks and consumables give DR I say (even though it should be the opposite, darn FNV cheeky ).

Well... Shit. I merged retlaw's fix into SVN. I'm leaving it for now and I'll change it when we figure out for sure how we wanna proceed.

Eh, it's literally just a number to change back if it needs it. My vote is DT and moving to a pure DT system, unless we plan on doing a full-bore JSawyer-esque overhaul of armor and ammo.

Also, I'm Facebook friends with Chris Avellone. I could always just ask him what they intended to do, but I don't know if he'd answer considering he's a busy guy.

my 2 cents is that +3 DT is a bit too powerful, especially considering it's already so easy to stack enough DT to make you almost impervious to most firearms. +5 DR seems ok (half effectiveness of the FO3 toughness perk) or alternatively just +1 DT (half of NV toughness perk rounded down).

To be honest, I was under the mistaken impression that all DR was being replaced with DT.  Knowing now that some DR is purposely meant to stay in the game, I might not have posted this topic.

However, the thought of having a hardened, purely external layer of protection, like skin made of bark, seems to me like a form of armor, which would suggest DT is more appropriate.

I sent him a message, told him what TTW was if he isn't aware. I asked him if leaving the DR items in was intentional or an oversight, but no big deal if he doesn't know considering that was 4 years and who knows how many games ago for him.
