My Feedback

Post by Justincase09 » Tue Jul 16, 2013 4:40 pm

First I'd like to say, what an incredible undertaking this has been for you guys and what a shining success this is in my book! Literally haven't seen the light of day since I installed this on July 11th. And on top of that it's so damn stable, not one crash! I haven't made any mods or coded anything myself but I have been a user of them since getting Fallout 3 on pc when GOTY came out. I appreciate that you guys need feedback from users of the alpha release to fix bugs and what not so I'll elaborate on my experiences. I tried to find if these were problems others post on the forums, but these are the ones that a search couldn't pick up for me.

1) Doors in Megaton, Tenpenny, Oasis, etc are Negative Karma Red, like I'm about to walk into a pissed off NPC.

2) My Oxygen meter has gone missing from the User Interface since my trip to the Oasis Caves.

3) I can confirm your fix for the Micro Doors in Paradise Falls works great.

4) Leveled lists or whatever its called that make enemies advance in difficulty as you do. This is a big one for me. My character, after only coming out of the vault was destroyed time and time again at random encounter locations by Talon Company Mercs. An example would be at the Super-Duper Mart parking lot. You guys are all about having the same feel as FO3, and for me I always did that quest to go there a certain way with a certain gun and it turns out that the raiders I thought I'd be fighting were Talon Company instead, who blew me away a few times. I'm a level 2 at this point. Upon leaving Super-Duper Mart I always swing by Grayditch to start Those! Quest only to be stalked by Sam Warrton and his sniper rifle. You can imagine my surprise when all of a sudden my head explodes into a paste about thirty feet from Brian Wilks. Now as a level 11 I'm getting beat up with plasma weapons from Talon Company and Enclave Soldiers wearing power armour from NV. I admit its been a while since I've play FO3 but I don't remember enemies being this advanced at this level. I guess FO3 had a level cap of like 20 so I'm halfway there, but now that the level cap is 50, I can't imagine how difficult the beginning of Point Lookout will be. I have the optional EXP reducer and Project Nevada.

TL:DR - Talon Company Mercs have been beating my ass over and over since level 2 and now Enclave Soldiers with plasma rifles and Power Armour are stomping me at level 11.

You guys have done one hell of a job with this mod and I only wish I could take something like this on and produce a mod that is half as nice. Keep it up.

The doors being marked red is because FNV changed the way that ownership works and there is nothing we can do about it as it is hard coded. There is no issues when entering the doors unless it is in off hours and you pick the lock.

Yeah it's no big deal, I don't lose Karma or anything I just wanted to report it. I hope I'm not coming off snide or anything like that! It's not my intention in the slightest.

Not at all it has been asked about a lot and I just wanted to explain why there is nothing we can do about it.

I'd like to address some of the balance issues you brought up, but first I would like to know what all mods you have installed, so that I can be on the same page.

In a vanilla play through, on very hard, I don't have a whole lot of problems, and I'm not what you would call a power gamer. It MAY just be an outstanding streak of bad luck for you, or it MAY be a matter of you go places earlier than I do.

Thanks for your feedback, it's always nice to see members giving their input laugh.

The Talon Company thing... mmm to be honest I didn't notice they were that hard, in fact the first thing I do after completing a few quests in Megaton (fixing pipes, deal with the bomb and knock some sense into the addict guy IIRC) when I start a game is to hope the Talon Company will be in the Super Duper Mart so I can get quite a nice armor in the beginning cheeky, but then again being a tester means that I start the game over and over and over (some times more than 20 times in less than a month) so I probably just got really experienced in playing, also I play in very hard with unarmed or melee characters usually and those are just over powerful in my opinion. It might also be that you have some mod that might change the difficulty of the enemies or something like that. (Also I suck in terms of balancing the game, I can find bugs but not balance issues so if you say that the Talon Company is really hard I believe you wink, don't want you to think I am dismissing it, gloating or calling you a wimp or something like that devil it's just that I don't play TTW, I test it so I don't notice hard enemies I notice CTD, NPC's appearing out of place, missing stuff, doors not working, flying houses, and stuff like that cheeky)

I will have to check that oxygen meter disappearing surprise I never noticed it before, thanks for telling us about it laugh.

I can also say that if you

I can also say from personal experience, that if you run The Realistic headshots mod, that may be your issue, since there are much more snipers in DC, and it seems everyone you mentioned likes to aim for your head.

All i could say is if you are really having that much issues, with the difficulty regardless if you run mods or not, bring a bullet sponge, i mean companion, so that way they can distract your enemies while you pick them off one by one.

Jax I'll get my load order

Jax I'll get my load order for you when I get home either tonight or tomorrow.

As far as the balance issue, I don't think its that they are hard like what I have read about the Super Mutant or Albino Radscorpions, I think it is the fact that you get attacked by all three at the same time that make them difficult when you are new and don't have any decent weapons. For the Super-Duper Mart quest I used to always, by that time, have a hunting rifle picked off from Spring Vale, swing by the destroyed house for the Skill Book or Mag and then flank around by the river and pick the raiders off one at a time. I guess I'm a stealth ranged player. Now since the hunting rifle in .32 is gone (thank goodness you guys rolled it over to .308 like it is supposed to be) I took them on with the 9mm pistol from the vault and a single shotgun from a raider, so they beat me. The next most notable time was coming out of the metro station that the guy sells Ultra Jet from, I got to the top of the steps and was lit up by 9mm SMGs and one guy had reinforced combat armour or something. IIRC I was a level 4 or 5 at that time, so from what I've read the weapons seem to be around my level but maybe it's just my character, but having them start to appear around level 7,8,9 etc seems like vanilla FO3 to me, these guys were just a little premature. And now the enclave definitely seem premature, since I just got to GNR and got the radio dish.

I can fully understand if I am going places too early, but I have no idea if that's the case. You get sent to deal with both of those areas pretty early, (Arefu and the Super Duper Mart).

I don't think that perks affect the leveling of the game but I believe the only mod I have on to enhance my character stats is the NV skill perks, where you get perks after you meet the skill and special requirements automatically, so that could be it if perks affect leveling.

Got it.

Got it.

Talon co is a random encounter and wasn't level based in FO3 and still is not. You just got unlucky and ran into them more frequently than normal. The enclave before project purity is a known bug related to Broken Steel meaning that it, too, is how it was in FO3. Most likely you are suffering due to the low level weapons in TTW when in FO3, as you said, getting decent weapons isn't too hard. Basically it sounds like a spurt of bad luck. But I WILL look into the talon co again and see if a second glance doesn't make stuff jump out at me. Like the reinforced armor, definitely shouldn't be spawning on them at such a low level.

Yeah it always makes me kind

Post by MrMedicinal » Wed Jul 17, 2013 1:53 am

Yeah it would always makes me kind of furious when ever i would leave the Vault 101 for the first time, and get ambushed by a lone Enclave Soldier when i'm like level 2 . But i remember that bug well from the PS3 GOTY edition as well, so that is a bug with the Fallout 3 game itself, not the mod.

As for the mercs, I thought they were appropriately outfitted, and i first ran into them like you, at level 4 and 5. But one thing you got to remember is that the Fallout 3's set of armors are missing  DT, or was it DR? (I forget which one it is lol) So that may also be your problem, your just not as protected as you remember.
