Less Dakka

Post by ifellout » Fri Jul 19, 2013 6:41 am

This could be taken as a question or a suggestion, depending on whether or not this exists already.

There's too many guns and bullets in the wasteland, both DC and the Mojave.  Every fight you get in can involves a huge deluge of bullets from both sides, and 1 bullet is often not enough to do any real damage to an enemy, and virtually never enough to kill the player character.

Damage from guns being too low, but guns and bullets being so common leads to boring fights where you both just peashooter eachother till the player character's health-advantage typically wins out.

So, a mod that reduces the number of guns that spawn (on enemies and in merchant shops) and/or severely reduces the amount of ammo ingame.  Guns and bullets should also become much more valuable, with a crappy gun costing as much as one of the nicer weapons in full condition from a vendor.

Damage that guns do should then be made much more lethal, equally lethal for the player character as for the common raider.  Now the fights become more dynamic and melee more common/essential.

I know there'd be issues with this and the "OPness" of hand-to-hand weapons already, and I don't have an idea on how to fix that other than a revamp to the whole weapon system (you can use everything at a competent rate, and then choose to specialize in some things for small advantages).  Melee is very effective at the moment, but as involved as Minecraft's, you point at the enemy in close range and click repeatedly.  There's no real fighting, just out damaging.  Changes ala Condemned would be nice.

It's always a good idea to look up anything that you are about to post on the forum, before actually posting it. This mod is old enough now that chances are most things like that have been addressed by now. The search bar here on the site is very useful...

Nonetheless, check this out, http://www.taleoftwowastelands.com/content/ttw-20-less-firearms-10 . Hope this helps. Oh and welcome to TTW

Played with PN much? Srsly, it turns out all you have to do is modify the chance of finding certain kinds of loot in containers and you'll be picking over every corpse for a few extra bullets.

I will comment that 12 gauge shells are a magnitude of order less abundant than 20 gauge shells in the CW, at least it seems that way. This could be a result of the fact that shotguns which make use of 12 " shells tend to be higher-tiered weapons like the hunting shotgun and riot shotgun.

As has already been said, there are numerous overhauls available. Try one. Even if there weren't, so called "balance" changes are way outside of the scope of TTW.

Did you even attempt to look for what you just talked about? Do you know what google is and how it works? Have you eaten Kentucky Fried Nachos? Important questions.

What is PN and CW?

I have noticed the 12 gauge being rarer in vanilla.

Ah ok, well this sorts out the gun side of things.

Anything that makes the melee elements of the game more like Condemned and less like Minecraft?  The fights don't really feel like fighting, it isn't high risk enough, high reward (melee is also just plain OP when done right).

My buddy just started a Skyrim playthrough, determined to only ever use a mining pick, or any of it's unique variants, as a weapon. No spells, no ranged weapons. His character's name is Minecraft the Time Waster. I lol'd. He uses DCO (as well as a bunch of other stuff) so he's gonna get filleted by dragons.

OT vis a vis melee weapons

It would be pretty easy to buff them with FNVEdit if all you're looking for is flat damage boosts so NPC's can kill you quickly too, but let's face it: Melee has always been goofy in Bethesda games. Combat in general has been goofy, but melee has always felt more so, to me.

Ever play Dark Messiah? It was hilariously dull plot wise, but I really liked the melee mechanics. Daggers FTW!
