Dehydration in Zeta

Post by Darian Stephens » Mon Aug 26, 2013 1:16 am

There's quite the problem in Mothership Zeta (Not so much a bug as an oversight) in that I die of dehydration before managing to finish the DLC.

The only way I could prevent myself from dying was through cheats (Spawning some water bottles), and the only legit water source was a bottle of dirty water on a wastelander corpse.

If there was more water or some alien water, this wouldn't be an issue, but I'd rather not have to cheat/turn off hardcore mode/bring a butt-load of water with me.

I thought the alien food also restored thirst. If not, it is a really easy mod to make, seeing as I must have done it myself.

+1 on Hardcore needs being supported in the dlc though. I know Anchorage will have the healing thingies dealing with needs, but I vaguely recall having a tough time in the Pitt. If anyone has a couple of hours to sit down and make it, I would imagine a "TTW Hardcore Needs Integration" (TTWHNI, possibly pronounced twinny?) mod would be a nice entry for the Mod Competition.

I would suggest bringing a buttload of water with you. When I play hardcore mode, I keep about 10 bottles with me at any given time, and that got me through Zeta just fine. If someone can suggest a good way to implement water I would be all for it, but placing water fountains around the place wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me...

Plum:

Anchorage has had the needs removed, instead they simply don't decay when you are in simulation.

The Pitt has a few water fountains and the one slave serving slop, should be plenty, especially with all the water in the first aid boxes in the Steel Mill.

Broken steel, IDK but I don't think there are any segregated world spaces long enough to cause problems unless you are completely unprepared.

Point Lookout definitely not a problem, ample food sources, vendors, and water sources.

Zeta, I guess if you are unprepared you are fucked, but adding some dehydration restoration to the alien food wouldn't be out of whack.

Sweetbeans. Anchorage will be much more fun this time round.

Wanna know something tragic? I totally forgot about the slop slave; I had to check the wiki to figure out what you were talking about. So much fail.

As for zeta, I would still suggest adding Thirst Quenching Power (tm) to the alien food strewn everywhere.

Maybe the alien squid food, I'm sure that would have some kind of liquid content.

Or maybe add a tube of stuff like alien biogel or epoxy that replenishes thirst a fair whack, giving you even more of a reward and the ability to survive in zeta. Or perhaps have alien/adapted biogel replenish thirst a bit.

I don't particularly like using outside knowledge in my game, but until something is done about this, I might have to (to know to stock up on water).

I guess my point is, if you would rather role-play than meta-game, your character should still be carrying some water and food with them. If I go on a day long trip, in real life, I pack at least 2 meals and at least a half-gallon of water.

I was only low level when I stumbled across zeta, still trying to make a living in the wasteland.

Also, fun little coincidence, when I left zeta, the Firelance event happened right outside it, but then my game crashed, and when I reloaded, it happened again. What are the odds?

I've got 2 pictures of the thing happening right after it- well, happened.

Depends on where you saved.

Post by JaxFirehart » Mon Aug 26, 2013 4:26 pm

Depends on where you saved. The game MIGHT have already decided to give you firelance, so when you reloaded it was still ready to do it. Otherwise the chances are still not as large as you would think, most random number generators are circumstantial. So if you do the EXACT same thing you get the EXACT same results. Still, even with that in mind, a HELL of a consequence.

I get what you mean, now, about Zeta, and that's a good point. Going to have to find some way to get water into Zeta without being out of place. Still think squid food is the best idea so far.

I'm glad that this issue has been taken into account!

Also, before starting the dlc, the mothership zeta beaming up sound would play seemingly randomly, although it did seem to get a bit more frequent as I progressed through the game, regardless of the wasteland I'm in, although the problem hasn't come back since I finished the dlc.

And I can't enter the dlc normally, I need to coc to the holding cells and tlc to Somah then talk to her to be able to play the dlc, otherwise when the scene for the aliens experimenting on me finishes (My screen never goes black), my view stays frozen, as do the animated things, excluding the aliens which start to have idle animation after a while.

Hmmm I'm on the fence about that one Crimson_Drake. On one hand to walk through an arch and become "Instantly Hydrated" is a bit of a stretch, as far as my understanding of modern tech goes... On the other hand Fallout's Lore is based on post-WWII Sci-Fi, and as far as Sci-Fi goes, i don't necessarily see that "Hydrating Arch" as being Out of Character, (As long as it's presented in a snazzy way) so IDK.

One thing is for sure, life cannot exist without water. Doesn't matter if your four ft tall, say "take me to your leader," and are determined to destroy all organic matter on earth, you need to hydrate somehow...
